Canny, but shows why I don't like video format. He says in 11 minutes what someone else could say with 5 bullet points. Most other videos are the same.

If people think some of my posts are long and rambling, thank god I have never gone into video. I'd challenge The Hobbit for hours of stuff with nowt actually happening.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'd make money from the YouTube algorithm if you just put up 5 bullet points though it's a interesting idea for a new platform for people who just want the bare facts without digging through a lot of padding and waffle. Just not sure how you would monetise it.

That is a fair point. I'm looking at it of the point of view of wanting to share some information for free and get nothing back (or if posted here, receive abuse ;) ).

He is supplementing his income.

I’m packing in early as I can. Doesn’t mean you can’t dip back in and do a bit every now and then, to keep money ticking over. Bit of invigilating, bit of election work, bit of delivery work, Xmas jobs etc
That is one of the key things. If I don't like being retired or have not quite worked out the cash, then I can go back.

I work in IT in the university sector. Although I'm management now and I'm likely to end my career at deputy director level, I have a lot of technical experience from years of being a network and linux engineer on the front line. A fair bit of coding experience too. Universities are often looking out for experienced people who understand the sector to work on a short term basis to bolster failing projects. At the minute I'm thinking about doing that for my last two years of work anyway, take the pressure off, do it part time. Chances are that if after a couple of years of being retired I want to pick up a contract, I'll be able to. The sort of sector it is, my name is pretty well known now.

Is this the number you're trying? Worth trying the outside Uk number? Looks to be a North East number?

If you register on Government Gateway you can check your NI history - if you click on a year with insufficient contributions it tells you how much you need to pay. I think you can only go back 6 years though?

I did this last year for my missus, gave me all the info. going back years but as the good Dr. says I think you can only top-up recent years as, guess what, they changed the rules.

Cheers for that, will give it a go. Probably need to speak to someone anyway as to see if its worth making up shortfall .

They won't give specific advice. At least they didn't with me, but that may just be down to the person I spoke to.

My records showed that after working 44 years I was 1 year short for the full pension, pension was only a couple of quid short per week, less than £100 pa. However when I specifically asked if I paid the extra years contributions, around £750, if memory serves, would I receive the full pension they replied that I may or may not depending upon circumstances. There was some talk of me being in a contracted out pension scheme and the potential impact and complications. Despite requests for further clarification no further information was forthcoming so I elected to take no further action. I found the experience less than satisfactory. Hope you have more luck.

They will confirm the figures and what years you are short, but you can get that info on the Gov.uk site.
They will not give any info that may constitute advice on whether you should make the payment, or not. That decision is up to you.
Sorry if I did not make that clear.
It was good to talk to someone to confirm my understanding of certain things but I just wanted a little more, but understood why they couldn't say do this or do that.

Gathered they couldnt say yay or nay, think will give you facts to consider. Just got to put a morning aside next week to try and speak to someone:(

Iirc you could back date class 2 payments 16 years but then changed the rules to 3 years. I think from April this year class 2 ni contributions are abolished.

Anyone know if a fund that’s entirely equities makes money via dividends as well as share price increases? I’m in one that’s very similar to the S&P 500 mainly technology 68% US companies etc. cannot see it anywhere on the fund fact sheet.

Not saying there won’t be any, but a lot of US sticks go more for share price growth than dividends through share buy backs etc.

If it’s a fund, they may just reinvest any dividends that are paid to but more units. Does the fund name give any clues eg a growth fund or an income fund?

Not that I can see

Although does mention reinvested income in the fund aim section.

Not much different to you.
My built in alarm clock wakes me up around 7. I am always up around 7:30 to 8:00.
I catch up on the news, finances etc with a cup of tea then out with the dog.
Instead of walking fast and rushing it’s just wonderful to stop and chat to people. The dog loves meeting his friends so everyone a winner.
I know what you mean regarding feeling annoyed if you start jobs late but don’t because you now have time.
I am painting every room have a big garden that I am currently weeding and sorting out before Spring. Already I want to finish these and keeping telling myself to slow down.
Visiting my Mum (Mam) tonight before going to football.
Hope to go fishing tomorrow.
This afternoon the second coat on the skirting boards and door frames in one of the bedrooms with the music playing.

It’s better than work, just keep reminding yourself.
My Mate is a legal councillor for Aston Martin, Mrs number two been messing him about, he has a huge mortgage, kids from two marriages.
I feel for him, earns big money but facing the fact that he might have to work 30 plus more years, will be downsizing already.
All about life and enjoyment. Stress is not good for any of us and I’ve lived with it through work far too long.

We all have to stop work at sometime - my plan was get out the first day I could.
Sounds superb, well done.Always enjoy reading positive stories from others who retire .
Offloaded a business last week so unofficially retired .
Still have other little interests but nothing that causes stress or requires me to get out of bed on a morning before 9.

Work was stressful, without doubt it impacts so many factors in your life, changes you as a person and in some cases you are unaware.
Will take time for me to adjust but I am hopefully getting there.
