Was Bobby Robson a Geordie?

He was absolutely a Geordie.
Arguably one of the finest. I don't know many Mackems who have a bad word to say about him.

He also grew up in a time where the vast majority of people form the North East were "Geordies".
Apparently even Sunderland fans were singing about being geordie in 1973.

I imagine Sir Bob was of the generation when we were all Geordies up here

Is there a more suitable definition?

Durhamonian or whatever the Durham folk call themselves?

I was born in Newcastle but lived in County Durham from 3 years old to 19 years old.
I've supported Sunderland since 1987 when I started going to Roker Park.
I'm both a Mackem and a Geordie and perfectly happy with both labels.

Was current way longer than that. Acquiescing to John 'Toad' Hall's definition was the final straw.

Definition - a person from Tyneside in the north-east of England

He was from Sacriston. The Tyne is a good 12 miles (as the crow flies) from there - the Wear is just 3 miles.

They are nuts.
Not this shit again. Does it matter?
