This for me. If Root was being Root then we'd be 2up in the series already. Someone needs to slap him round the head.

He was playing bazball already before the appointments. I don't know what he's playing atm because it isn't bazball. Sunday league would be too good a description anarl.

Think back to the first ball of the Ashes - full ball swinging 4 slips in place not a half volley and Crawley slaps the ball through the covers for 4. What's the risk and reward ratio there? Were you applauding the boldness of the shot or was it a reasonable risk? Is it simply OK because he didn't get out? Duckett at one stage had left 8 balls in 12 test matches getting out regularly nicking off but succeeding more often than not. His game is full of risk and the bowler is always in the game. The records of Crawley, Pope, Duckett are very good under McCullum and they aren't getting those runs without sometimes getting it wrong. They aren't picked to bed down for a session and would get out trying to due to not having a test match ready defensive game. So yes - say so when they get it wrong but its an easy game from the sidelines.

I was at Barnsley getting grit blown in my face for 90 minutes while Sunderland lost 2-0 playing an illegible player while England finished the day 38/8. Ive had better days.

Well exactly Hameed, Sibley, Burns took far less risks than Duckett did there get better rewards absolutely not!!

You merely have to look at Duckett’s record compared to them three not only in his own performances but that of results of the team

I get we try to play without fear and just back ourselves confidently no matter what.
But some of the quotes in this article from Duckett is an issue of the arrogance that comes across instead at times, often misplaced.

I think it’s fair enough Duckett having that mindset himself. However what makes Duckett a success isn’t what has made Joe Root a generational talent.
 
Is Root doing to much in the bowling department? Not sure it is helping him when a part - part time spinner is now doing a full compliment of overs!

Root has 1028 runs at 39.23 in his last 17 tests. That’s from the beginning of the South Africa series.

A definite decline as he was still playing like himself in them first 4 tests, the NZ series and the covid cancelled India series finale game.

Them 4 tests boost his average to 51 under McCullum as he had 3 not outs. But he has 44 runs per innings in the whole 21 tests.

In the previous 20 tests before McCullum he averaged 54 and 53 runs per innings.

Maybe, but it's not like he's been asked to come in at 10-2 when batting. Lads top of the order have given good starts this series so he's had a decent rest by the time he's come in to bat. He just looks confused in his batting atm. I don't know how badly his finger is hurt but it's never nice batting with a battered chicken sausage.
 
The lead is past their first innings total that we got nowhere near.

The amount of dragdowns we've bowled is so poor
Anderson getting absolutely carted
