India v England 3rd Test Rajkot

Lords all over again :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Nevermind at least I won't need to wake up at 6am the next two days.

Got to look at the positives

That’s the only positive, but one I’m going to have to embrace too. Had a massively hectic work week, probably had no more than 6 hours sleep at the most on any given night this week due to my mind being constantly in overdrive AND then had about 90 minutes sleep last night due to a poorly child 🤦‍♂️

I’m running on fumes. Wonder if I can get a weeks R&R in Dubai between Tests….

Yep, but like it or not there’s more to discuss when we lose than when we win - namely what we should have done or changed to win. Was the same in the pub with my mates after the Plymouth game - all shrugged and went “yes that was canny wasn’t it lads” and talked about whatever’s next. Not sure why people take this as a negative - it’s just boring posting when we win, as there’s nothing to discuss other than to congratulate the management and players on a job well done

2 out of 6 batters is a large chunk last I checked

It’s flat as a pancake for Indian standards and easily the best time in the game to bat

Christ, you're a right barrel of laughs. Sunderland have just won the Premiership, FACup and Champions League, but there's nowt to discuss.

You might want to adjust your focus slightly

Think the third alternative to consider is that it’s a football fan thing. PF is typically an even more extreme version of the same thing.

Also, a social media thing of course. These days, everything either has to be totally brilliant or totally shit. Of course, unlike the more nuanced issues of the day that this extreme mindset still gets applied to, the thing about Bazball is that it does genuinely have a tendency to be either totally brilliant or totally shit.
Yeah that totally my point both in football and cricket, there is a massive over reaction and lack of perspective on days like this in both sports.

Of course criticism will follow after this morning completely horrendous morning and more than fair to say that which a lot of posters have and rightly soo

But dropping large chunks of players or dropping Root and not accepting this new regime has completely transformed English cricket for the better is losing that sense of perspective

Beating Plymouth won us 3 trophies? Jesus didn’t realise it was that important!
I'm simply extrapolating the point you made, which in my opinion is an incredibly negative way to look at sport.

I hope you don't have a similar outlook on relationships, family, work etc.

It’s a discussion forum. There’s not a lot to discuss when we win and play well. That’s ultimately why there’s less posts when we win. What do you want, 1000 posts kissing up to the same players and agreeing with each other? There’s obviously more to discuss when things go wrong, same in football (hence the match thread differences)

Why is there ‘ not a lot to discuss when we win and play well’ ????

Personally if we play well and win that gives me a lot of joy and I want to discuss it loads as a lover of cricket and over the moon when England do well so can discuss it loads as get me very enthusiastic about our team

Can guarantee the next phase of the game will be us clawing the game back just enough to give everyone some hope…and then that swiftly evaporating with a Bumrah spell in the 4th innings.

It’s dead easy to say game awareness everytime we collapse (which we did plenty playing conventional cricket) Now this definitely applies to Root but Duckett for years has played cricket always putting bat to ball and got 153. Does it apply to Pope and Bairstow being out LBW or Crawley out yesterday. That’s your top 5. It’s been a terrible day with the bat but it’s we have loads of these before playing a different way.

I think game awareness does apply and is a fair statement, in this instance it’s Joe Root realising he’s been out to that ramp shot 8 times in his last 13 Tests (is that the stat?) and maybe keeping it in his bag until the last half hour of the session as opposed to the first. Or wait until he’s gone beyond 50 as opposed to still being in the teens. Then when it comes to Stokes, the same logic, maybe keep the ball on the floor (or as near as dammit) for the first 20-30 minutes after the interval. If you’re slog-sweeping you can still do that by hitting down into the ground as opposed to up in the air. He’s one of the most brutal and pleasing on the eye batsman in history (IMO) in terms of taking apart a bowler/fielding side with textbook drives, cuts and pulls.

In both instances lads were trying to run before they could walk, essentially. Yeah, I get that is ultimately the essence of ‘BazBall*’ as some people term it - but personally I think the whole idea of it is open to interpretation anyway. For me, my overriding feeling is what has already been said - the two biggest wickets of the day were our two best players and the two lads who are naturally ‘positive enough’ to not have to take unnecessary risks to make something happen.

Duckett will be furious with himself, but I won’t criticise a lad who was on 150+. The funny thing about his morning was that his downfall was actually the opposite of what we’d normally expect. Perhaps he was to defensive….? But again that still falls into the awareness category. He was sold down the river by Root for me though.

There’s a difference between enjoying a win and posting on a forum. I can enjoy the win without being on here when we do well, and always do. I just rarely see the need to get on here when I have nothing to discuss

Of course this morning is a massive opportunity missed and it's very disappointing. However, have people forgotten we conceded a 190 run deficit on 1st innings two tests ago and still won.

With respect mate, I see it differently when my team wins especially when they played very well can talk about and want to talk about it till the cows come home as gives me great joy

Just no brains. The amount of back to back wickets there is just poor concentration and nor reading the game. Obviously everything is fine margins, but you can try and improve your odds. No way they should have a first innings lead of over 100 on that pitch.
