Forthcoming gigs.

Slow start to the year for us.

First gig week on Wednesday - actor Michael Shannon, Jason Narducy (Bob Mould bassist), Jon Wurster (Bob Mould and Mountain Goats drummer) and friends playing Murmur by REM

Looked at the dates & it’s no good for me. I’m away the week before on a lads holiday, Michael Head the Friday I get back, match Saturday, gig the following Tuesday is nee good.

I’ll be at Michael head also, seen him a few times but this is a new venue for me. Really looking forward to it.

Only been once, Dead Men Walking a few years ago. But it was a different set up cos it was all seating & I was on like a temporary scaffolding thing. This is standing.

Think this’ll be my fourth time for Michael Head like. Was down Leeds at the Brudenell last year. Hebden Bridge before Christmas looked class. Friday acoustic, Saturday full band.

Lankum the morra at the Barras. I cannot f***ing wait.

Beyond that: Fever Ray, The Hives, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies (my lad has recently turned gig-going age and he loves the Pumpkins and Pixies, can't not take him to see them)

Never been into the Smashing Pumkins, but explaining my you’re seeing the pixies is not needed. You’re automatically the coolest friend in your group.

Pete Wylie and the Mighty Wah!
Last night at the Cluny.
He turned up 45 mins late and was very much like Jonny Vegas meets professional scouser.
Liverpool bingo card all ticked 😂
There was a number of arseholes in the crowd trying to hold heckle conversations with him.
He slagged the mags off for the Saudis and got argued with. Dear me.

Anyway, great voice and good musician. Some good songs and good memories.

Ha ha ha. Good on Pete. Not scared to speak his mind. Was expecting Billy Bragg to mention it when I seen him at the sage a couple of year ago, but nowt. Disappointing

Saw The Voyd at The Bunker last night, do a topper set these lads. I really struggle to see how they haven't made it bigger when you see some of the current bands seemingly doing well. Apparently they struggle to get gigs locally which is why they did last night's gig (only 40 tkts were on sale), hope they don't just give up like so many other local bands like The Docksuns, Social Club etc.

As for other gigs lined up I've got The Stranglers and SLF but need to sell my 2 x Mary Wallopers tickets if anyone is after any, but missed out on From the Jam in May at the Boilerhop but will catch them at the Fire Station in July. Might do Echo & The Bunnymen in March and Stone Valley.

Was gutted to miss this but had tickets for The Voyd so went there instead.

Yes, a fine evening of entertainment. The 'start' time, was somewhat of a misunderstanding. Apparently The Cluny like bands on as late as possible to maximise alcohol sales. They were never coming on at 8.15 as the posters claimed.

I caught a look at the set list before the gig and there were 14 songs. When they came on at 9ish, I though we may be finished by 10. Nope, finished just before 11. Tons of between song chat. My take on the hecklers is a little different. It was all good natured both ways from what I heard/saw. Encouraged by Wylie.

It was interesting talking to him after the show. He was furious that the LP (Not album!) that the tour is promoting has been delayed, and it wasn't available after the show. It seems that finances are so finely balanced, not being able to sell the record after show can make the difference between the tour making a little profit or a loss. The bit where he spoke about not being able to afford having a keyboard/backing vocalist on tour and having to rely on recorded strings etc was very telling. The merch was very fairly priced.

Yes, intially after the show he was very much 'in character' but after while he was very charming indeed, signing everything that anyone asked him do in very good humour. The bloke who brought tons of record sleeves to the show should be ashamed. Asking for one or two to be signed is fine, but the amount he brought was just greedy. There were some SAFC fans talking to him after the show too. Anyone off here?

I hope he got his chips and/or kebab post-show.
