Romain Mundle

We could do with fully repairing the club following the last disastrous 6 years. I doubt any of us know the real structural financial damage that has been done in that time or how long it will take to get ourselves fighting fit again. Running at a negative of c£6m a year with no chance of getting any massive incoming finance until we return to the Premier league we have to be careful what debt we take on regarding players. It's a balancing act we are doing quite well with at the moment but it could turn to bat shit in the blink of an eye. No guarantees in football and I'm personally happy with a cautious approach at the present time and attempt to build slowly and surely.
We must be one of the only clubs fans actively bring this up time and time again. Nee one wants millions spent they just want the glaring holes that have sat staring us in the face for the past three windows sorted to give us a chance to progress. Sorting this shit show off the field out would do wonders for the model too, having fans wanting to spend money on the club but unable to kind of hinders the whole sustainable model right up.

I’m not saying it’s not a nice to have.

But DM is an absolutely desperate situation. Desperate.
Yes I agree DM is the absolute number 1, I think we've both made that point a few times recently on here.

I suppose I just think if we aren't signing a DM for whatever reason (maybe we can't find the right one or we don't want to sign one), I don't see that as a reason to stop signing other positions as well.

In an ideal world it shouldn’t be zero sum. But time and money are the ingredients of priority - so in the end, it always is.

Is Styles not a DM? Maybe I’m putting 2 + 2 together and getting 5 on the basis he plays left back sometimes as well.

Bobby Moore wore No 6 he was a defender, Jim Baxter No 6 a creative half back, same era 60s.
Aye.
Bobby Moore in my eyes is one of the finest footballers to ever grace the game marra.
He was one of the first cultured defenders who was also able to pick a pass and execute it. Forerunner of a DM really.
There were others that came along that could do it too, like Paul Reaney at Leeds.

To a lesser degree I think Shaun Elliott had that too. Thought he was a smashing player alongside Jeff Clarke.

Spend what we can afford no problem, spend millions just to sate the needs of those who can't be ever satisfied is just wasting our money. Everyone sees the game differently and maybe those in charge don't see/feel the need for a big lump of a CF or a growler of CDM. Simple thing is we have generally managed to do well without them for the last 1 1/2 seasons and the powers that be probably don't see the panic and will wait for the right players at the right price before the they fill those roles if ever.

Speakman has spoken about strikers to media so I'm pretty sure he knows we need one seeing as his summer signings in that position have struggled. Doesn't need a football maestro to see were weak in the middle, the "Evans" position we've needed replacing since his injury.

Four-and-a-half-year contract, undisclosed fee.

Sunderland AFC Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Talented players like Romaine are highly sought after and we saw this first hand in the summer when he left Tottenham Hotspur. We didn’t anticipate him being available on a permanent basis, but when we sensed an opportunity, we moved quickly and decisively to make it happen - our ways of working and structure are a real strength in these moments. This is an important step in Romaine's career following a spell overseas and we look forward to helping him settle, as he makes Sunderland his new home. He’s got a bright future ahead of him as part of an exciting squad, and we look forward to working with him.

Mundle becomes the Club’s second signing of the January transfer window and subject to international clearance, we are hopeful that he will be available for selection when the Lads face Middlesbrough on Sunday at the Riverside Stadium.
