Forthcoming gigs.

All in all Futureheads/Martha etc was very good indeed. I echo the comments about sound. it was top class. The only minor irritant was the overuse of a couple of columns of rotating lights that were on the stage, maybe mainly blue and purple. They were at a level where they were just flashing directly in your eyes. Not sure who was doing the lights but they didn't seem to complement the music on stage at all. Seemed to be more there when Martha were on rather than Futureheads.

Only saw the last couple of songs from Primaveras but they were good - and so young! Everyone on the bill was worth seeing though. BFB have improved 100% since the support slots I saw them do at Pop Recs, seem to be taking things much more seriously but still having fun.

Must be double figures now for me and Martha and I don't think I've ever seen them in better form. Probably my favourite band for a long, long time. Was a bit bladdered by the end and think I told them I loved them all as we were leaving. Joyous. I'm f***ing 68, man!!

Had a good night on Friday watching Doors Alive at the City Hall after some cracking cheap food and cocktails at Revolucion De Cuba. Restaurant Week deal on the food was excellent and if you prepay a bar tab they double the value! Hadn't seen the band before but they do a great job of it without going overboard on the impressions. Lads I talked to on the Metro had seen them 10 times!

An altogether quieter night in store at the Fire Station tonight, with Teddy Thompson doing his country stuff.

Still haven’t got to see Martha. Loved their first record but that must be 10 year ago now?

Yes, I am the same with Martha - seen them loads and they are never less than brilliant. Also, agree about Bigfatbig, they are getting better and better. As I said I liked Vice Killers - one of their songs with the acoustic guitar had a real Smiths vibe to it. There's loads of great bands about at the moment - a new band called Swindled from Sunderland had a great single out recently and I highly rate Patrick Gosling. There was a lull after the Futureheads/Field Music/Frankie but it seems to be really on an upswing for Sunderland/Wearside.
 
I went tonight too. Could only catch The Lake Poets and Paul Smith. I enjoyed both immensely. Sad to see only about 50 people there. Maybe the weather put people off.

Beautiful set from Teddy Thompson and his band tonight at the Fire Station which was somewhat blighted by the couple sitting behind me who turned up completely off their tits. Was just about tolerating them chatting and their incomprehensible shouted 'bants' but then the woman hoyed up all over the floor. Absolutely stank the place out.

If that was you in DD38/39 you should be f***ing ashamed of yourselves.

promo was absolutely pathetic.. embarrassing (imo) that all those great artists were playing and no one stepped up to the challenge..

i'd put myself forward to dj between bands there on friday night and it was agreed months ago... from there, i've had zero interaction / confirmation / equipment request..

strikes me as no one is fully versed and experienced in putting events on / promoting them correctly..

I was talking to the Dad of one of Martha. We were talking about the promotion and he'd asked about it too. Apparently they'd, 'Put up flyers and some posters around the college'. Although it shouldn't have been necessary, you'd have thought some enterprising student would have been all over 'The Socials'. It would have looked good on their CV.

100% agree that for someone doing a media course at the college, this would have gone a long way on their course work

honestly, it really frustrates me, as someone born there and who lived about 200m from there, until i was 15. the promo should have been down to teesside, to durham and up to the borders - doing as much as possible to raise awareness of the great events and the fact it's all to help celebrate 75 years of peterlee. poster runs, a page in the local papers, radio (frankie's show / gilly hope's show)

the lack of effort or understanding as to what promoting events actually entails, is embarrassing. it makes the place and locals look like they're clueless
 
Probs been said before… but off to see Depeche Mode tomorrow and Nadine Shah from Whitburn is supporting

Love seeing folks from home doing well 🙏
