Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

The Cliff usually keeps a good pint. They usually have Landlord on which is spot on. A complete contrast to The Promenade, where Landlord is always shite.
It wasn't that long ago that certain posters on here were absolutely insistent that pubs were finished.
That was a crystal clear piss take from Spug.
wrong

you've never had one in the Cliff then. And I like the Cliff.
I've had a decent pint of Guinness in The Cliff. That's not say there hasn't been duffers.

£3.50 for a pint of Staropramen (and all draughts) in Justice up until the match ends tonight.

I nearly fell over when the barman told me (and started to wish I’d brought a couple of water bottles to take in the ground with me!)

Since Covid, they seem to have had a bit of a revival. Probably due to people realising what they were missing when they couldn't go out during the Covid lockdowns.
I’m not sure there has been a revival, 400 pubs shut in the first half of 2023, numbers for the second half haven’t been released yet I don’t think they’ll be any better. I can’t see this year being much better.

I'm just going off what I see when out and about - they seem to be busier than I remember pre-Covid.

400 closed in 2023 H1 - any figures re how many new ones opened? Or is that figure a net loss?

Maybe it was, but he should have read the room better. Things were a bit fraught at the time he decided to initiate that particular wind-up. Got a lot of people's backs up, including mine.

And I'm normally such an easy-going lad as well😉

That’s a good question, I’m not sure if it takes opening into account, I suspect not. I’ll see if I can find the report again.

Handing out prosecco vouchers for the botanist if anyone is going to end up going with their lass

Just In the middle of the bridges

I'm not one to moan about the price but a pint of Guinness is £5.70 in the Dun Cow.
Very good pint so no complaints.
Just hadn't noticed how expensive some pubs are now.

Lucky to get served in there anyway since their staff tends to go missing.
