Yann M'vila - target or not?

He didn't have any agreement to be released from iirc, but I think there was a rumoured verbal agreement, but he can't be blamed for that. He's a professional footballer who was in his mid-20's at the time. Joining a Championship club who were in free-fall would have been career suicide. He went on to play 39 times in Europe after deciding not to join us instead.
it wasn't a rumour, there was an official agreement that he asked to be released from, and we agreed. So to say he would run through walls for us, perhaps, when he doesn't have a job or it suits him.

I bet he's a shell of the player we had
Most won't have watched him kick a ball once since he left here, and I'm one of them.

You'd have thought he'd have something to offer the rest of the young squad in terms of experience and composure in the middle of the park though. We're crying out for a DM and it's possible he's going to be cheap and wants to come.

Ekwah could learn a thing or two from him in particular.

Because they insist on playing Jobe every game despite him being out of form or tired. If they continue with that, it’s either we get a striker, or we get a defensive midfielder. There’s no room in the team for both.

Put a CF and a CDM in the 11. Who do they drop, realistically?

But might as well put Ballard on the wing, class.

They’re not going to put neil, ekwah or Jobe on the bench, imo. They’re just not like.

Can't remember Jobe playing too often as an inverted winger, he's always been pretty central, started CDM, went slightly more advanced in recent months and CF a handful of times. We have been playing Pritch inverted a few times recently then have Roberts when fit and Ba who can play on the right, could also consider moving Clarke over depending on the opponent or Hume as a RWB with his engine. Certainly not Mvilla in any role like that. 100% CDM or holding in a slightly more advanced role. Anywhere else we aren't taking advantage of his best attributes.

He hasn't played on the wing for us but played a lot of his youth career on the right wing.

Players from one extreme to the other, too old or too young. It looks like the club is just about f*cked to me. I never yet saw a team with no money go on to fo anything goof.

I think we actually had a pre-contract agreement for January but we released him from it, I know they released a stament.

I'm sure he said he wasn't prepared to drop down much in level unless it was for us.
Yeah he said that in December though, after 5/6 months without a club, didn’t come out in June and say it 😂

Apparently a few top clubs were “considering” him so I reckon he’s held out as long as he could for an Atletico Madrid or a Barcelona (both apparently “considering”) while rejecting lower table teams in France, then it’s got to this point and he’s thought why not?

Not knocking him at all btw, I’d have done the same and I’d still absolutely love to have him back!

But think it’s more because he doesn’t have a club yet rather than he had his heart set on this move from the off.

We had an agreed fee to sign him in the summer but we chose ndong instead with mvila posting on social media about being let down and waiting for our call

January was the earliest we could approach him for a pre contract deal so although we might have asked informally, there couldn’t have been anything in place. He was still under contract when he was allowed to move to st ettienne but they ripped it up early to get him off the wage bill

I'm not saying you're wrong but I remember the statement from the club, seemed an odd thing to be releasing an official statement on, especially if it hadn't been in writing.
