*~*~* Rotherham v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

Difficult for someone like Burstow coming on in a game like that. I think he's absolutely garbage and he can clearly only run towards the opposition goal (though has problems with composure when he gets there) and we seem to have made a habit of buying centre forwards who can only do that.

we struggle more to open up sides who sit in deep and are organised rather than against those who leave space in behind, yet haven't seemed to have brought in a forward who can also drop deep, hold the ball and play in others running past them.

"the traditional number nine is not as prevalent in our team as it would be in other teams in terms of how we play the game"

A quote from Speakman back in January. Maybe it's about time we made it prevalent?

Speechless! No passion no fight. Rotherham were there for the taking. We hardly broke sweat even at a goal down. We seem to think we’ve got the game won before we start. These players need to be fired up before the game but they push the ball around in our own half as if it’s just a friendly game. Kevin Ball would have been kicking 10 arses every game We aren’t going to progress as long as we bring young inexperienced players in. The seasons going to fizzle out when we don’t strengthen the squad with an experienced striker.
I don't know why an experienced striker makes a difference.

We just need someone who scores, age and experience really doesn't matter. There's a lot of utter shite experienced strikers.

Hear, hear.

It finished at 0.33. Against bottom of the league Rotherham that’s a disgrace and to the best of my knowledge is our lowest of the season.
In both halves the player ‘upfront’ touched the ball a handful of times, we looked incredibly devoid of any kind of presence and fluidity throughout the game. Rusyn must have upset those upstairs.

So we'd score in a third of the games. Obviously not great but much better than the 6% you were purporting at half time.

It sounded poor but Rortherham's home record is 17th in the league - they're not the worst side I'm the league at home.
17th you say?

Well getting a point at the 17th best side at home is a monumental achievement. Up there with Neil Armstrong walking on the moon.

There was fight like, hence us getting back into it. The problem was lack of quality

So, we sack Mowbray because he can’t take us further. And recruit Beale because he’s the coach who can. I’ll stay in the ‘give him a chance’ frame of mind but at the moment we’re worse, and I see nothing to show he’s changing anything for the better.
