*~*~* Rotherham v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

They were doubling up on Clarke every time as well. As vital as he is for us, he needs to learn to pass the ball earlier/quicker in those situations as they rarely come off when he tries to take on 2 players in a confined area
He is our one threat, esp after Roberts went off injured. He was the best player on the pitch by a long way. He has no one to aim for in the middle as he is expected to do it all on his own. It will be a sad day for us when he eventually leaves us.

What do we train on?

How many times this season have we seen a winger (any of them) get to the byline and fail to find a Sunderland shirt in the box? Pull back to the penalty box every time, usually for the oppo to go on the break

It's the passing to anywhere but to the blatently obvious direct pass to the striker that does it for me.

We play far too comfortably to offer any sort of threat against defensive sides that are happy to be out of possession.

No, he hasn't played "horrendously" at all, it's a total extreme opinion and simply not true. He was one of our better players tonight.

He had a poor first half against Coventry but was a different player in the second and did some good things. He didn't deserve to be jeered off.
I’m sorry but he’s been consistently our worst player for a month, I’d say. That has been compounded by several missed chances in front of goal.

He doesn’t deserve to be jeered off, no.

At least 5 times in the last 10 minutes he just booted the ball into the box not even trying to find someone. Still our best player by far but he looks out of ideas himself. He should try staying wide occasionally and putting the ball along the back to put their defenders under pressure, they just know he cuts inside everytime and anticipate it.
I can’t believe I’m saying this again:

He has nothing to aim at! Nothing! Zero! There is no striker. Striker no there.

Tin hat on. But Beale changed it subs, barring Burstow, had an impact.

Old saying that if you aren’t good enough on the day to win then don’t lose.

And that’s as positive as I can be.

Jobe staying on was puzzling and although he’s got to take a slice of the blame for the goal, he managed his game well.

Ba grew into the game so a little pat on the back for him.

I’m gonna hoy out fitness levels cos they looked dead on their feet.

Poor point as it stands, it may become a good point as we go on.

Nice to see Clarke has been told to go outside his man now, but the pullback balls are terrible. Defenders are sitting deep and tracking the runs, meaning when we pull it back we aren’t capable of timing our runs properly. Time and time again we get behind the fullback only to play it straight to a defender.

Relying too much on JC. Knowing the shitbags in charge of our club it’s probably to drive his price up

As I say , a point away from home is only acceptable if you win your home games. So if we beat Preston then thats a plus for me.

A point away at a team at the bottom of the league when we’re aiming for promotion isn’t acceptable
