Leaving aside the veracity of those figures for a moment, it could have been more if there were better direct rail connections. It’s not being strangled…it’s seen a billion and a half of outside investment in the last 5 years

Why are you leaving aside the veracity of those figures?Leaving aside the veracity of those figures for a moment, it could have been more if there were better direct rail connections.
Direct rail connections to the rest of the country mate. Why are you leaving aside the veracity of those figures?
The entrance to the station was a source of embarrassment as the gateway to Sunderland; now it’s not…and this is not going to be the main entrance or the end of it. At least part funded by inward investment.

WTF are you on about mate?
This is improvement and you’re upset about itDirect rail connections to the rest of the country mate.
Having more of those would have added to the list you’ve given above.
Why shouldn’t we expect better?
What are you on about? Do you agree that the PTE responsible for rail on Wearside had a policy of cancelling rail traffic from Sunderland through NCL?
I’ve stood in front of the ORR in London are argued for better access rights for Grand Central (to serve Sunderland) and Nexus OPPOSED it.
No. You’re mischaracterising what I’m saying. This is improvement and you’re upset about it![]()
It’s not a black and white shed and it will provide a welcoming and attractive gateway to the city. The previous entrance was a source of embarrassment not befitting a city on the up. A larger north entrance is planned and eventually reopening platforms.No. You’re mischaracterising what I’m saying.
If by ‘this’ you mean the black and white shed at the south end of the railway station, then yes, it is tidier. Great. Well done.
But it will do absolutely nothing in terms of improving platform capacity, which was deliberately throttled as part of the 2002 metro extension.
Greater platform capacity is needed to support more direct connections for the city in order to support economic growth.
It's about 1,000 times better than what was there.why are people twisting? It’s not a black and white shed and it will provide a welcoming and attractive gateway to the city. Will Leamside reopen? Probably only with increased demand and a change in government.
Stop moaning about improvement
Are you suggesting that people should build a basement then maybe add a bungalow when they have enough money?
I suspect he’s a Sunderland Corruption/Global Media typeIt's about 1,000 times better than what was there.why are people twisting?
Surely you see there is greater intent and support now than in years previous?Well a basement is basically a hole with walls so I think they should plan ahead and save money till they can build both.
The history of the station since 1966 has been filling in part of the basement, building the bungalow, digging out the basement, altering the bungalow then pulling it down and building a new bungalow. Now they have to do the basement again but have spent all their dosh.
Will Leamside reopen? Probably only with increased demand and a change in government.
Here we goNonsense. The original station was knocked down when Labour were in power and they were still ploughing ahead with the Tory Beeching closures. Leamside was closed in 1991 and could have easily been reopened by Blairs Labour but they didn't. Labour don't give a flying f*** about Sunderland or the North East.
So the leamside line was closed under a tory government. Thanks for thatNonsense. Copy that from the brochure did you? It’s not a black and white shed and it will provide a welcoming and attractive gateway to the city. The previous entrance was a source of embarrassment not befitting a city on the up. A larger north entrance is planned and eventually reopening platforms.

This is a hub and spoke transport model. We do the best we possibly can for our city and this looks like positive progress to anyone with any sense.Copy that from the brochure did you?
It removes a grotesque wrong - granted. It’s like sticking a decent enough looking conservatory (although wtf is going on with the colours ) on the side of a house that is too small for you.
Yeah, from the perspective of entering at street level, it looks ok. As expected. Reasonable.
It’s hardly the future.
“Look lads, Sunderland railway station has got one of those flushy , watery things that you piss in”.
“Wow”.
“Let’s relocate our business there! That place is amaasazing”.
The south station entrance is a tidy up job.
But our city needs and deserves much more, much faster and much better.
I can see that a large amount of cash has been spent where previous large amounts of cash have been spent, in my view cack handedly. I don't know what you mean by "intent and support" ?
Why should Sunderland be subordinated to a more northern city when more than 75% of rail journeys from Sunderland are Southdown. This is a hub and spoke transport model. We do the best we possibly can for our city and this looks like positive progress to anyone with any sense.

You do know it's not finished? Or does this not fit your agenda?Genuine question for anyone who knows -
What has the new station entrance actually delivered, apart from a better overall look and appearance?
So far, I’ve got
1. Toilets
2. Seating for 6 at entrance level
Why should Sunderland be subordinated to a more northern city when more than 75% of rail journeys from Sunderland are Southdown.
It adds 50 minutes on each leg of the journey, plus involved changing. .
No I’m genuinely asking what will it deliver. You do know it's not finished? Or does this not fit your agenda?
It’s part of a program to deliver 2 new entrances and increased platform capacity. As I understand it there will be more seating, information systems and vendors in this entrance. The north entrance will have office space for people like Grand Central and a retail offering.Genuine question for anyone who knows -
