I couldn’t see the game but I hear the hoo-hah about Jacks and I see that Curran was poor again. Seriously, what has gone wrong with Curran?

Thought we posted an above-par score. Bowling was atrocious, especially at the death. Curran needs taking out the firing line.

Still not sold on Buttler as captain. The decision not to bowl Jacks was baffling and he just doesn’t seem able to inspire or lift the team. Great player but seems like a ‘soft’ leader.

Gus Atkinson & Rehan Ahmed have played 19 domestic 50 over games between them.

Not good preparation to step up to international level. The ECB downgrading the OD Cup will do a lot of harm to our ODI side. It's worth them bearing in mind that ODIs still have a place in cricket and are not going away anytime soon. If we end up having a piss poor team people will stop going to see them and therefore will lose money.

But all the ECB are interested in is the 16.4.

I don't think Stokes had played a domestic one for about six years and an ODI for over a year but was still arguably our best player at the last world cup. We're playing a team that's on a downward spiral and didn't even qualify for the last ODI world cup. Ahmed was the pick of our bowlers, while our most experienced looked like a club player. There's more to it than just pointing at the Hundred (and I'm not a fan of it).

From the little I’ve seen, I would say Turner is a serious talent. With his variations, he would be a logical replacement for Curran. But …
Turner looks like he has all the potential to be an elite cricketer.. here’s hoping.

Exactly. With Carse, Atkinson and Turner (not to mention Tongue when fit) you have a pace attack of consistent 85mph+ plus seamers.

Can’t imagine facing Curran’s 78mph pies strikes fear into anyone tbh. He’s barely quicker than some of the female internationals.

I think Curran needs to look at reinventing himself as a batting all rounder, or at least one who can comfortably bat at 6 or 7. There’s no way he can justify a place in the team as a bowler batting at 8 or below, and when he first came onto the scene it looked like he could well be someone capable of eventually batting in the top 7. His batting has not progressed at all, he seems to think of himself as a pure slogger these days which is a shame. The lad should spend an entire season playing county cricket batting in the top 6 with reduced bowling responsibilities and see where he’s at from there.

I always assumed that they’d killed off the soul of Antiguan cricket when they moved from the old rec but that new ground is brilliant.

Tons of locals in (in the shade mostly so not on camera) and friendly as owt. Even though England threw it away yesterday that’s up there with the best cricketing experiences that I’ve had. The bands and Antiguans going mad on the grass bank while Hope slapped us around were fantastic.

But Stokes has played a lot of 50 over cricket, he learned the game over a long period. The new lads will play a few games then if they're good enough get picked for the hundred so only ever play county/tests and hundred/T20. The next generation of England cricketers will be learning to play the 50 over format in ODIs.

Edit, not saying it's the reason we lost yesterday, but I think it's a fair concern for the next few years

That's pretty much the case for most ODI cricketers nowadays tbf.

Personally I would be playing CC championship games when the Hundred is on. Most games are sparsely attended anyway and the people who attend them aren't likely to go the Hundred games anyway. It'll be a good chance to play at some outgrounds too, perhaps bring a cricket week back to Portsmouth/Bournemouth for Hampshire which are both a big miss. It might also help get rid of the notion among many in the former that Hampshire is primarily a Southampton team nowadays.
