How come so few people turn up for midweek games?

Last night was like pulling teeth. I actively, always try to carry chants on from where I am in the South Stand and barely anyone was arsed. Group of lads at the back quite relentless but nobody really joining in.
I can imagine, sounded really flat ,way flatter than usual which is pretty fragile at the best of times lately. We really need a good consistent run of performances and wins to start to get everyone back on side.sounds shite but it's a two way thing, people are just sick of the shite practically every well for the past 5 or 6 years

I assume everyone moaning about the atmosphere was there last night and singing their hearts out for the full 95 mins?

If you don't like the atmosphere, it starts with you, Don't complain that others don't create an atmosphere unless you do yourself.
I was yes. I actively tried to get the atmosphere going multiple times as did a few around me. Very difficult to get anything going when 3 sides of the ground literally couldn't care less

Same at our place, empty seats around me last night all season ticket holders, dunno whether its work, kids school next day or the bloody freezing weather.
There were definately less than when you lot came down, but the crowd figures say otherwise, so its got be season ticket holders giving it a swerve
It's much easier for people now to sack the match off these days.

Bit of cold weather, match on tv, a nagging wife/Other half which some just bow down to - the slightest excuse or a combination of a few things and people won't go out.

I get that some people have to work more staggered shifts now but it doesn't count for the majority who sack games off.

Season we are having I can understand it mate, baffled a bit by season ticket holders missing though, which is definately what it was around me last night.
Added to that bottom v top and probably expecting a hammering
Didn't you only get 10k for the first round of the league cup in August?
doesn't everybody.....?
That cups dead

We have a fair few of our group who simply don't bother on night games, I find it odd. I took the car last night for the first time in years as I didn't want to drink much. Left at full time, got back to the Sunniside car park about 10 mins after that, took me 5 mins to get out of the car park (which was free) and was back in Teesside and dropped the lads off by 11, up at 6 for work today. I personally don't see why the midweek games are a hassle, I quite enjoy them (more so when we win) and whether it's using the train or the car I never have to leave early.
It is strange. I enjoy midweek games - means there's something to look forward to throughout the day at work (even if the performance doesn't quite match the hope).

The issue doesn't seem to be anything like as visible at other grounds - particularly those with a sizeable support like ours.

My thoughts too mate.

This 100%. People have been worn down by our abject performances

I don’t think many people from Sunderland actually attend the match, heavily reliant on those from South Tyneside and beyond so naturally during a working week not all of them can get there.
And as Hank said the buses are on strike, certainly in many parts of Co Durham

Some folks on shifts struggle with mid week games ,Its hard enough if you just work dayshift but shift workers find it impossible, the bus strikes and the freezing conditions didn’t help either

Looked about 25k there tonight. Empty seats everywhere, front of the North Stand virtually deserted and it all made for a terrible atmosphere. Team was poor but playing in front of that wouldn't have motivated them.

Going back to the Roker Park days, more often than not that was when the old place was at its best. Most of the best atmospheres I remember at Roker Park were night time games. It always felt better under the lights. A bit more magical. Have to say they are horrible now. Absolutely soul destroying again tonight.

Havay man get behind the lads no matter what day we play! Top 6 still very much there for us but everyone has to do their bit!

Because they're shit?

I was in the west stand on the half way line last night, and bar that block or two at the back of south the three other ends were completely dead. Not a peep

I’ve been following SAFC since 1991 and can’t think of a worse atmosphere than last night, if someone said there was 300 in I would’ve agreed
