It's the same in most clubs
Sunlun is always known for doubling our work output when we're doing well.
MY mam worked in British Ropes 50s n 60s and always said that without knowing Any score she could tell if we got beat cos nobody spoke to each other.

In my local here in Guisborough there's only about 5 of them that go to games. It's those who don't go that give it large if boro win.
Lads who go are good people and we have good banter

You’re absolutely right. Most fans on both sides are decent people, loyal fans and good banter. Whilst I’m obviously biased and i have no real evidence, it seems no Sunderland fans post on fmttm but Boro fans are all over this forum…particularly if they win. Boro are ‘mildly’ obsessed by our performance if we get beat, and go missing if we win and Boro lose.
I don’t know anyone who supports Middlesbrough, so I’m really struggling to understand any ‘derby’ or ‘rivalry’. Boro fans think we are being dismissive by having this attitude of not being bothered about them, but for many…it’s true.

I regularly tell them down here.
In all my 65 years of watching the lads I've never recognised a game versus Boro as a derby.

There are a few who post on fmttm and our other forum 'OneBoro'. Admittedly, not as many in comparison to the number of Boro fans who post on here.
 
I struggle to buy this “I’ve never met one” line. Sure, I’ve not personally lived in our absolute heartland, having been brought up in the South of the county in an area that was a genuine interface with Boro and in the West, where there were always a fair few Mags, but it’s more what happened after that.

Most of my contemporaries, whoever they supported, were scattered to the four winds for work whether within the region or beyond, because of the way the region has been royally shafted for decades. I’ve only recently got back to the broader North and to within striking distance of home fixtures, and even then I’m in solidly Leeds United territory at present. The way some are talking, you’d think we were still in the era of three generations down the same pit, drinking in the same pub or club, and only venturing out of the village to go to the match, or if they were lucky for their week by the seaside. I mean, come on, while I’m not disagreeing with the point people are making about where the real rivalry is directed, and what the real derby is, it’s 2023. I think you’re over egging it a bit.

I just went on there to offer my condolences when David Mills died, and was well received. Asked if they minded if I stuck around, and stayed.
I don't overly take the piss when they lose, and don't give it the big un when we win. Just canny lads, bit of mutual piss taking, but interesting to see another clubs take on stuff.
I haven't come in for half of the shit that some of their lads get on here.🤣🤣🤣
