I've said many times on here, Boro fans are pretty split on matches against you being a 'Derby'.
A lot do regard you as rivals , and yes of course its different from how you view us.
Your main rivals are BOUND to be your black n white cousins.
You're only a few miles apart, most of you will have mates, work colleagues and even relatives that support Newcastle.
We're miles away by comparison, and a fair chunk of your support will never have even met a Boro fan.
But, obviously for us - you're the nearest team (that we play on a similar level regularly), so a lot of our fans are BOUND (Capitals again!!!) to see you as our main 'rivals'.
Also, a lot of our older fans will see you as the 'enemy', after being in the same league as each other for much of the 70's etc - together with all the trouble between supporters in those times.

I don't expect much on here but this thread f***ing stinks.
On average, after a red card, the number of points fell by 0.25 for the 10-man team, but increased by 0.36 for the 11-man team. So on an unconditional level, the data reject the cliché, suggesting instead that it is in fact easier to play against 10 men.
It will come as no surprise that teams who lost a player because of a red card lost on average 59% of the time. Only 23% of games were won and 18% of games were drawn when that team received a red card. Interestingly, the average time a red card was issued during a game was at 59 minutes – which is fairly late on.
The final piece of the jigsaw relates to how disadvantaged a red carded team is and data shows us that on average a dismissal occurs in the 60th minute and disadvantages a team by around 0.6 tenths of a goal. We can use the goal decay equation to estimate how the burden of a card changes with time.

I don't understand how stats are needed to prove that.
It stands to reason, 11 against 10 is easier.
The clichè that it makes teams harder to break down is bollox trotted out by 11 men that couldn't beat 10 men.
Middlesbrough is North Yorkshire but obviously Middlesbrough is tiny compared to the wider teesside Cleveland area. South tees Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland is North Yorkshire albeit doesn’t feel like it for places like gtown south bank Eston etc places like guisbrough Redcar town do have Yorkshire twang. North tees north east confusing place even as a boro fan

Yeah, I was getting worried.
Been pleasently surprised with us in recent weeks. Sunderland result was obviously the highlight and I include the first half against 11 men in that. Thought we were excellent.
We will see how we go. Lots of signings with little championship experience, so could be another dip at some point. Hackney is outstanding.

I agree but as an example these young lads who fight with Derby County fans on social media about Steve Gibson trying to put them out of business probably aren't as worried bothered about a Sunderland or a Leeds as fans were in the 80s.
Think social media has made it different for newer/younger fans.

I've always lived between 6 and 8 miles from the SOL. I'm not far off 40, in my time at school, college, work and holidays I've never met anyone that claims to be a boro fan. So why would I view it as a derby? Most folk from 'Tyne and wear'' have limited or no interaction with Boro fans.I don't think that's right mate.

You need to get rid of that soft centre. Mowbray's teams always have it. Us, Blackburn and now you. Honestly his team's always look the part and win a lot of games but can be scored against, sometimes at will.

It had been a really good game up to the red card, two good sides both having spells on top. If you'd have asked me at 40 mins I'd have said it'd have been won either way by a solitary goal.

I am abiut 20 tears older than you, and remember the proper battles we had on and off the field, both at Roker and Ayresome.
The battles off the field confirmed the "derby" status of this fixture, and most that can remember that would hopefully agree with me.
