Im guessing here but I can’t imagine they want to commit a ground that could be 3rd tier of their football league.

But then again that would be an unbelievable promotion tool. This is what our 2nd/3rd tier offers etc
 
Seems a lot of work all to be done in 4 and a bit years. Apparently they haven't even broken ground on the Belfast stadium. Can't see it all being done in time.
 
Honestly I am looking forward to this. But when all said and done, all the England games will be at Wembley, so it’s not an issue really, but be interesting to look in on some of the other games.

Irish Times speculated last week that if Casement didn’t get sorted, the SoL would be next in line, something about (outside of London) the organisers wanting 1 venue per city. Unsure what else is on the back up list, dont think the South Coast has any games but don’t know whether St. Mary’s or the AMEX have the necessary capacities?
 
Interesting piece on BBC about Casement Park, must admit I’ve never heard of it…

Still looks nice enough when you're sat in your seat but the concourses and exterior are looking very tatty these days.

I think once we get back to the Prem it'll get a good spruce up but don't think the cash is there to do at the moment.
 
So if the Northern Ireland stadium fails to materialise ( and maybe the Everton stadium too) would we be in the running?

Bigger ground but not really a better one, it's ugly as fuck and a good 60% of the seats are awful and too far away.

Imagine it's to do with the lack of accomodation in the North East to accomodate 2 grounds. There's very limited hotel space in Sunderland and you can't have potentially 100k+ fans fighting for a space in Newcastle.

St James is better than the Stadium of Light pretty much for everything on paper; capacity, location and like you said the club position. There's very little reason to pick us over them bar some form of parochial nonsense which generally holds the region back. Compared to the likes of Man City and Tottenham, both grounds are crap really.
