Boro thread

I have no axe to grind with Middlesbrough or their supporters, my late father-in-law was a big Boro fan so I always keep an eye out for their results. I work down here and, in the main, they are as good as gold with me. Apart from some good natured leg pulling this morning, which was only to be expected, there has been no real gloating as such. Indeed they have been very magnanimous in victory, just as they were pretty gracious in defeat last January so fair play to them. It's the way it should be.

Reflecting on Saturday, the sending off was a huge turning point but Middlesbrough were clinical and ruthless in their game and ran out convincing winners in the end, no complaints from me whatsoever.

For what it's worth, I thought that they put us to the sword with the extra man by exposing our soft underbelly and, in truth, the scoreline could have been more damaging had they taken their chances and our goalkeeper had to make some good saves.

Unfortunately I thought Mowbray got his substitutions wrong at half time in response to the sending off and our young team were given a harsh lesson on the day but I'm sure they'll learn from this disappointment, bounce back and continue to have a good season.

I was particularly impressed with Hayden Hackney and Isiah Jones but less so by the antipodean referee.

Last season in this fixture it could be argued from a Middlesbrough perspective that decisions went in our favour, this time they didn't, that's football, we take it on the chin and look forward as there is so much to be positive about at present.

The league is very strange but very competitive. I think we'll both be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and I'm sure after the international break it'll be a case of forgetting this game and moving on.

The bits in bold are the same for me in my interactions with the Boro supporters I’ve met.

Always find them decent crack when it comes to football and I don’t really see them as rivals or as arrogant as the mags when it comes to talking about football.

As long as it’s not at our expense I’d like to see them in the top flight.

You might not but I'd imagine those fans singing Mowbrays red n white army we hate Boro might.

Unless you sing that about every club you face?
stoke: your club is a joke, your club is a joke all out shit players we sell them to stoke
leeds: leeds, leeds, and leeds and leeds and leeds, leeds, and leeds and leeds and leeds and leeds and leeds and leeds who the kinels leeds
man united: who the fk are man united

I could go on. I admit losing is always tough but so is losing to stoke, plymouth or Wycombe. I don't mind boro, work with a few of them and all good lads. just had the light banter today but I just said they've turned their season around and it'll be intersting to see where both teams finish. When we won last season I didn't even mention it to them. They just said we played better and deserved to win the game.

the Boro supporting part of Teesside is Redcar and Cleveland, M/bro and Stockton that's about 500K. There are a few fans in Darlo but not many and in Hartlepool none, so I would take 200K of your total.
Aye I know Teesside itself is the size of a large city but outside of that we don’t draw that many from North Yorkshire few from Whitby and northaleton we deffos have the smallest area out the three. We attract very few from Durham anorl
It's their cup final
How you feeling hanky?

Tbf we went down to ten last season and got beat but it was irrelevant etc. however the game swung on a Red card our squad is a shadow of what it was last season. Yours have improved so in terms of finishing positions I’d still put ball in your court. I still think you’ll get top 6, I’m unsure on boro.

I was responding to a poster who'd claimed we don't have any rivals. I think the point is that some Sunderland fans regard Boro as a rival and some don't. You clearly don't, which is fair enough, but I just feel Sunderland fans come across as silly when they try and claim that all Sunderland fans feel the same way about Boro.

You sing that song about Stoke, so I'd imagine there's some kind of history there. You wouldn't sing a derogatory song about Watford or Brentford if you weren't playing them I'd imagine.

And most fans sing about Man Utd and Leeds, but I can guarantee Sunderland fans are the only set of fans in the country who sing about hating Boro, even when we're not playing each other.

We don't sing about Stoke unless playing them, same with the others. It's only the Mags that get sang about when not playing them.

That needs to be changed to 'we mildly dislike boro no more or less than Watford' and we never sing we hate boro when we're not playing you

Sunderland not caring is part of the rivalry. I've heard Newcastle say the same about them (especially in the past 2 years). A 4-0 loss strengthens the "we don't care" thing. Just like the 2-0 win last year had them singing about dilly and dallying and taking Boro in half a minute.

Some if it is true, some of it is banter, it's all part of it.

Look man how many more times have we got to tell yas we Don't hate you you are ganna have to find someone else too can you not advertise or something I'm sure there's some one out there 👌

@wev17 going back through old posts laughing, out of both heads I’m sure.

You’re 16th btw
Boro are indeed 16th, although the season has another 35 games to play yet - but i bet Boro are much nearer the top than the bottom by the end, and i also predict they’ll be above Sunderland by the end too (again) 😘

Can't see us going on a run like last season, we will do well to make play offs. However, we have now got hope.

From Sunderland's point of view think it depends on the January transfer window, they could probably make a run at promotion with some good investments but they don't like spending money and can see Clarke going.
