I’ve seen this back. He should have 100% sent him off and he had any number of ways he could have done it.What was the ref apologists excuse for missing Coburn elbow Ballard in the chops?

Maybe if the ref ‘seen it back’ like you he may have done.I’ve seen this back. He should have 100% sent him off and he had any number of ways he could have done it.
I didn’t need to see it back. It was a red all day for the way he caught him with his arm, at best for him it was a yellow, should then be a yellow for the chew if Ballard is getting one. What a didn’t see from about 70 yards away was the attempted headbutt, also a red card offence, maybe the 4 officials, 3 within about 20 yards should have, what with it being there job. Hence seeing it back and being any number of ways he could have sent him off. You really will defend anything when it comes to refs won’t you.Maybe if the ref ‘seen it back’ like you he may have done.
Totally agree.I agree but asking Sunderland to just take it on the chin isn’t a good either. As you say difficult.
Mate I'm not ignoring the crap game the ref had. . If you read my posts on this, I think the ref was f***ing awful. He ignored so much stuff, and missed blatant fouls. Clarke was getting fouled all the time, and the ref let alot of them go. I agree the ref was shite. And I agree Dan can feel hard done by.I think you've misread my post. I was commenting on the constant fouling of Clarke. Clear and obvious. You've failed to comment on the fouling of Clarke. People fouled Clarke and I don't think we got free kicks never mind them receiving yellow cards. Of course there is a difference. Neil commented on bad fouls and got booked for it. The people committing the fouls went unpunished. I'm sure you'll agree the fouling deserved more punishment. I haven't defended Neil, you seem to be ignoring what prompted his booking.
It’s the lack of people looking at bigger picture and reasons for these mistakes that gets me.I didn’t need to see it back. Both terrible decisions at the weekend were nothing to do with the 'speed of the game these days'. The game was stopped when Neil was sent off. Ballard was challenging for a looping header that had travelled about 30 yards.
As Ballard was our back man one linesman should be in line. The other would be in line with our forwards which is about 20 yards inside their half. I don't recall which side the linesmen were on, I watched the game on my phone on holiday, not ideal.
Worst case scenario would be if the East Stand linesman was up towards the North Stand. Of that was the case he would have been a good 40 yards away with the Boro lad with his back to him. However, the other linesman should have a decent view as should the ref.
It wasn't a clever foul, it was f***ing blatant so there should have been no doubt what the kid had done. He was literally nowhere near the ball with his head.
Cheers. The near side linesman should have only been about 40 yards away too.Linesman was at the far side, not really to blame. The ref was pretty close.

It was ridiculous of them both to miss it or misjudged it. We got pulled up twice for similar looping balls that dropped on the keeper. It was obvious we weren't really challenging for the ball. Just getting in the keepers way.
The difference is neither of our players led with the arm or spun the keeper off his feet dumping him on the deck from height.
I think this post does indeed point to someone as being a twat. Not convinced its the ref mind.......As soon as he took the knee I told my mate this ref is going to be a twat
How about the 4th official, he should have had a great view?Near side linesman was about 40 yards away but plenty of bodies, his view probably wasn't much better than the far side linesman who was right in line but miles away.
The ref's about 25 yards away. He's looking right at it but blowing for half time as the challenge takes place.

I was at the front of the prem concourse north stand goal line and had a great view.
It was a criminal assault, no attempt at the ball and smacked Dan so hard with an elbow to the face he was spun around mid air.
Much worse than a 'coming together'.
Fair enough, didn't see thatThe fourth official actually had the best view, but he seemed to turn away straight away as the ref had blown the whistle.
same here and also annoyed that these incidents have not been picked up by the media.Well, after 2 days I’m still as pissed off with the refs inept display on Saturday.
Hopefully that’s the last time an incompetent referee has such a negative influence over a game we’re involved in again this season.
It's the way of the world unfortunately.same here and also annoyed that these incidents have not been picked up by the media.
we get shafted and nobody is going to do anything about it
Maybe that was a decision made in the referees dressing room to be done in solidarity with his assistant and nothing to do with players at all.You could tell he was a posturing twat before the game when he joined in with " the knee" , he 'out kneed ' Burstow and Jobe for effect
