The ref (see PGMOL thread)

Did DN show dissent?

If he swore at the ref, then he did.

Really struggling with people not getting that.

Ok, the ref was inconsistent, but they shouldn't have to explain decisions they make.

Refs across the game, at every level, are being abused everytime they go out.
Without a ref, there is no game, and there are less and less people want to do it every season.

Ref yesterday had a bad game, but he booked DN for dissent, which Neil clearly did.

He didn't swear at the ref. He swore. At the ref is something different

You can't tell at all from footage what exactly the ref was saying or doing. Or Neil for that matter. Was he overly aggressive and if his face, nope. Are players regularly booked for doing that yes. Do players regularly get a 2nd booking for doing what Neil did? Well we've seen 2 examples from this season and last so that will be a no.

Is this the same Carrick who said he was surprised Neil was sent off?

f***ing hell you literally defend out man  He can't just call the ref what he likes as long as he's not be over aggressive whilst doing it. The video suggests the ref was waving him away and Neil has overstepped the mark hence the card

To be honest, there should be more concern with the way sunderland completely went to bits in the second half. It was always gonna be a tough second half but I did not expect Boro to wipe the floor with us. This definitely highlights the need for a few more experienced heads in the first team.

I coach u15s football.
This season for 3 games we haven't been able to get a ref. The culture of respect has to change.
Don't get me wrong, I was raging yesterday, but at the end of the day, it was a human making a mistake.
It doesn't help when high profile managers like Klop gowon like spoilt bairns after every mistake.

Opinions are like arseholes and your opinion never changes.
Aye consistent, will always say the situation yesterday a player should get yellow card for dissent for doing what he did whatever the team.

Where others imo and you included would say it was a yellow card if a Newcastle or Middlesbrough player done exactly the same.

And criticism would go to that player.

It’s amazing how many people on here change their opinions of incidents depending whether or not they favour Sunderland

The reason we went to shit is the lack of CF to hold the ball up to take the pressure off, no defensive midfielder, a cb playing right back, a right back playing left back, or at times clarke playing left back and naturally was regularly skinned. Mowbray got the changes and formation wrong, and once the first went in we were even more open to try and be more forward

All I know is players in general do not get 2nd yellows for what I would describe as mild dissent.

If they did we would have 7v8 on a fairly regular basis.

Poor lambs have got a hard job.

So have brain surgeons but I wouldn't be overly impressed if they made a complete balls of it on a fairly regular basis.

The trouble with that argument is there are thousands of examples of brain surgeons doing there job and getting it right. Can you point to a ref who gets everything right so you can say that's the standard I want?
