So why did he send one off and not the other then?

My logical answer is he thought ( and by the way he was there not you or I) that Neil’s was worse dissent.

It’s the only thing that makes sense, unless you have another answer?

Like I said earlier I agree it’s easier to be more consistent with dissent than fouls but there will always be diffrent levels of dissent and when one person gets send off and one doesn’t, common sense logic tells me the one that got sent off must be worse dissent than the one that doesn’t.
I have no answer why he carded Neil and not Crooks or even why he ignored multiple blatent shirt pulls by Boro players but the second Roberts did one he was carded, i am however of the opinion he was massively out of his depth and grossly incompetent as the other option is to think he was corrupt which i dont want to believe.

Yep... backhander from someone?

Or just completely useless...

How can he be expected to know that one referee will do what thousands of referees have not done in the past
That is a fault with the system not the player
He isn't expected to know. And that's why players shouldn't do it. The simple facts are 'dissent is punishable by a booking' (however the referee interprets it) and 'Dan Neil was already on a yellow'. These are facts.
The other thing is, we only have Sunderland's version of what Dan Neil actually said. The referee may have a very different version as to what was actually said.

Well that’s it we relying on footballers telling the truth enough said

Bruno guimaraes has just halved down a player on the break and didn't receive a second yellow.

Dan neil however.....

I absolutely despise these spineless officials like. Respect the ref can piss off
There will be a genuine reason for the decision mate. @Voice of fair play will tell you

Laughable

Sick to the back teeth of these c**ts ruining football matches

It was an unprecedented decision.
To my knowledge not one player has been sent off for doing what he said even though it will have happened thousands of times
'Unprecedented'. Ha'way man. Your knowledge will not even scrape the barrel of the amount of football matches that have been played throughout time. Of course it's happened before. Loads of times.

One thing abundantly clear is that @Voice of fair play really doesn’t like the culture of football fans and players. Sees them as lower class types to be educated and kept in check by the suits (or the wanker with the whistle).

Crickets more his cup of tea

Consistency with regards to time wasting and dissent is achievable though. They just choose for it not to be.

Hes allowed others off in the same game for shouting fuck off at him

I see what you saying mate, and agree it’s more easier to be consistent with dissent than fouls so do see that point.

But it’s still not as black and white as you make out, as there will be always be different levels of dissent in terms of aggression

The only way to secure consistency with dissent is to book every single player who talks to the ref. I really don't understand how referees can get close to consistency with every single exchange with the ref being different. Throw in prior conduct, body language, words used etc and consistency is a complete impossibility.

West Ham have had a player booker for gesturing for a yellow card, almoron does the same and nothing, seems like it’s a common theme with the refs, zero consistency

Quoted Nietzsche at him and explored refereeing nihilism and the futility of discounting persistent fouling is what I heard the referee put in his report.

It was doing it while moving that sealed Neil's fate, the daft bastard.

Yeah it is general point in the fact I can’t understand people absolving a player of responsibility in that situation irrespective of what happened in the rest of the game or other games.

My point is not necessarily this match it’s any match where a player is on a yellow card to do what he did in that situation.

Footballers should be more disciplined and not excused which people seem to br doing.

Can only repeat it was possibly harsh decision but can’t understand more criticism of the ref than the player

You should change your name my friend, you have absolutely no interest in fair play, only justifying the terrible decisions made by referees.

How is it fair play to ruin what was a fairly even game of football, by sending someone off, because they got frustrated by the terrible decisions that you've made throughout the match, and had the audacity to voice their frustration from 20 metres away?

The referee was appalling and Dan Neil has done nothing that he should have expected to be carded for, never mind sent off. Maybe you should take some of the famous empathy you always seem to have for referees and apply some to one of our own players, who's been unfairly sent off and is now being unfairly criticised.

You can argue all you want about how players SHOULD behave, and if you think they should have no passion and just keep their mouth shut, then that's your position but that's not how the rules are enforced.

We see worse behaviour than Dan's in games every week and nothing is done, there was worse behaviour in this game, and I would put money on their being much worse descent that went completely unpunished.

We'll also be missing a key player in our next match, and there's nothing we can do to appeal it, even though it was clearly a farcical decision, does that seem fair to you?

Your like a f***ing bairn man. Next time a young kid comes off the pitch crying after reffing a game after getting abused by adults you can feel proud of your last comment

Played football all my life sat afternoons, Sunday mornings and over 40s and watched countless matches.

There is absolutely no doubt with that experience that players cheat and con refs and the culture is fucked as opposed to how other sports go on.

Refs have to make difficult decisions in proven extremely difficult situations.

Anyone with half a brain should know under them circumstances and after watching football mistakes are inevitable and think f***ing hell these guys have a hell of a job!

and yes anyone who doesn’t grasp that concept is thick as pig shit!

I'm talking about the spineless referees who are clearly not up to the job and are simply arrogant.

Bairns in the park doing Sunday league is different and the decisions don't matter really.

Meanwhile in the professional world, the officials give this as a foul.... completely thick as mince.

Typical ridiculous example of football culture, zero responsibility for their own actions, sportsman in other sports get frustrated but remain disciplined and professional because their team members, fans and club depend on them to be,

Where of course in football it’s always somebody’s else’s fault normally the ref!

Already said countless times it was a harsh decision.

I'd love to see you do the job as I'm certain you'd buck the trend and would never get out wrong.

How can you get that rangers dive wrong from 5 yards away Rob?

They give it because they're spineless and scared it'll result in a goal so go for the easy option of giving the defending side a free kick.

Absolute jokers.
