The ref (see PGMOL thread)

Im passionate about my club but it doesn't mean I can come on here and not take a balanced look.

Two situations

A player is calmly talking to a ref and says 'howay ref f***ing hell man that's not foul'

A different players screams as he's making his way towards him aggressively and shouts ' howay ref that not a f***ing foul'

Should then two incidents be treat the same?
Ha’away… not howay please

I didn't say he was. I'm just using two examples. If you think my two incidents should be treat the same then we will ultimately never agree. But it happens. No harm done
I don’t think we will mate. Rules should be rules when it comes to things like that imo - if it’s the language used that is the issue then it should be a mandatory yellow for all but we all know it absolutely won’t be.
Tackles are obviously all completely different and it is very difficult to judge as to intent but language, that is an absolute.

Yes, they absolutely should, if that is the rule - if the language is the rule he is upholding. Was Neil screaming and approaching him aggressively?
Keep up man. He launched at him marching towards him aggressively while continuously gesticulating before screaming in the refs face

Or maybe he pointed down the pitch from 15 yards while shouting “another f***ing foul ref”. I know what the video shows… he doesn’t raise his arms again until the ref is producing the card. He wasn’t even walking directly at him. He’s clearly walking back down the pitch into position and only directly turns to face the ref again when that card is produced

I mean it’s all there on the video, we’re not just remembering things differently like the old days.

We can argue all day about whether the arm point and sentence was dissent, but we should at least keep the rest of the facts straight

I think the paranoia is outstanding from some of our fans. Baffling Neil getting away scott free for it all. The workie ticket was lucky not to get a red when he got booked yet still managed to fuck it up and ultimately cost us the game. That happens to a Middlesbrough players and it's hailed as sensible officiating. Any type of dissent I'd really nuanced depending on what was said and how it was said. It's simply not a black and white issue hence why you will see players swearing and it will go unpunished. It's going to ridiculous for the next few weeks that every bit of dissent caught on camera will see the toys come out the pram about consistency
So whats you opinion on Crooks telling the ref to fuck off to his face a few minutes before Neils 2nd card and being nonchalently waved away.

I think it's bit of a understandably whinge after a heavy defeat. This mythical consistency thing absolutely baffles me. Every single incident is different. It's impossible to expect any type of consistency when there are so many variables involved. Genuine question here and I use this line a lot but has any official in your eyes achieved consistency? Given no incidents are the same what do you actually mean by it. Remember the ref gets one look, at full speed from one angle

Our players go up for a challenge with their keeper, both are given as fouls.

Their player challenges Patterson, nothing given.

Identical situations, no different variables. Just utter shite, inconsistent refereeing.

Remind me, I’m just facing up to SMB after the match. What was the Greenwood incident?
Greenwood was on a yellow and just after half time at 0-0 went in high for a tackle. Was a 50/50 yellow but somehow the ref after being incredibly harsh on us and handed a golden opportunity to level things up decided he was now going to be lenient . Within 2 mins Greenwood scored hence the booing

I’m pretty sure he dived on the edge of the box and claimed for a pen too, waving arms etc when the ref signalled it wasn’t a pen.

Every single person in that stadium was completely flumoxed by that decision, including the Boro players who mentioned it afterwards. It was massively heavy handed and completely contradicted the managers briefing before the game.

It's the lack of consistency that frustrates all football fans when their team have decisions go against them.

As you have pointed out this ref didn't even have consistency within the same game. If Neil's was a 2nd yellow where was the yellow for Seelt who went charging over to the ref to protest in a far more aggressive manner than Neil did. Did Boro not swear or disagree with the ref of any occasion? Of course they did.
Boro had no need to swear at the Ref as he gave them every decision in their favour.

1st time I’ve seen the elbow incident as I could not really tell what had happened from where we were sat, you can also see the boro player try to headbutt another player, there is a ref, linesman and a 4th official all in the vicinity of the melee.

Even Sky missed the Elbow, it's a disgrace.

Because the ref missed it surely it can be looked at retrospectively.

Absolute shit show from the ref yesterday. It was so bad that I wouldn't be surprised if he had put a bet on before the game.

Dunno why you lot are blaming the ref. Dan Neil was an idiot to gob off

An elbow in the face then a head butt. No red card. Constant dissent from your lot, greenwood leaving one on Seelt, diving. Yet no caution.

Your keeper gets well protected, same thing happens to Patterson, no foul.

O’Nien gets wiped out just before the 3rd offside goal, no free kick and goal given.

The ref won you the game. Congratulations.

He probably was, and there’s nothing wrong with your opinion, providing you accept that from now on any player that says to the ref ‘that’s a f***ing foul’ should be yellow carded on each an every instance. You know thats not true and also that it’ll never happen.
