The ref (see PGMOL thread)

Can anyone explain if the ref was determined to make it Al about himself he didn't send Neil off for his initial booking? Surely that would have been his chance to be center of attention

Read my earlier post mate, just wondering, do you agree with any of the points I’ve raised? I can happily have a reasonable debate with you, without resorting to the name calling etc. that loads on here do.

See the usuals are still digging in

I think the paranoia is outstanding from some of our fans. Baffling Neil getting away scott free for it all. The workie ticket was lucky not to get a red when he got booked yet still managed to fuck it up and ultimately cost us the game. That happens to a Middlesbrough players and it's hailed as sensible officiating. Any type of dissent I'd really nuanced depending on what was said and how it was said. It's simply not a black and white issue hence why you will see players swearing and it will go unpunished. It's going to ridiculous for the next few weeks that every bit of dissent caught on camera will see the toys come out the pram about consistency

The problem with characters like him who become referees is that they have obviously never played the game and have an arrogance borne out of the fact that they were probably rubbish at every sport (in Australia I suppose that’s not cool).

This came out in the way he reffed that game yesterday. If Neil had been in his face - or even charging towards him - I would have understood it. The fact that the ball went out for our goal kick I think is important as well. It isn’t like the anger was based on them getting a penalty or something. If you are going to give everyone a card for swearing in your vincinty, then you aren’t robust enough to referee the game.

The guy was utterly clueless and I sincerely hope we don’t see him again. Terrible referee.

You will bet my bottom dollar that today he is actually enjoying that performance.

Why do you constantly defend officials mate? People are going on like this because they are passionate about their club and Neil did very little to receive that card and no, it isn’t nuanced at all. If that is a yellow card then EVERY expletive towards an official should result in one. That cannot be anything but black and white.
What are these nuances you speak of?

I think it's bit of a understandably whinge after a heavy defeat. This mythical consistency thing absolutely baffles me. Every single incident is different. It's impossible to expect any type of consistency when there are so many variables involved. Genuine question here and I use this line a lot but has any official in your eyes achieved consistency? Given no incidents are the same what do you actually mean by it. Remember the ref gets one look, at full speed from one angle

No it doesn’t man. The Boro fans didn’t even know what was going on and in fact, neither did any single person in the stadium.

Im passionate about my club but it doesn't mean I can come on here and not take a balanced look.

Two situations

A player is calmly talking to a ref and says 'howay ref f***ing hell man that's not foul'

A different players screams as he's making his way towards him aggressively and shouts ' howay ref that not a f***ing foul'

Should then two incidents be treat the same?

Have a day off man

Paranoia? Fuck right off  I often agree with you, however I’ll defend or criticise on case by case thanks. You just build your little defensive wall and carry on

It's not about getting "one look" in this instance, it wasn't a foul or something that would be 50/50, he literally said that was a f***ing foul... if that's a yellow card then every single player will be booked in every single match.

Christ you have to be on a WUM here.

Yes, they absolutely should, if that is the rule - if the language is the rule he is upholding. Was Neil screaming and approaching him aggressively?

The thing is we ARE taking a balanced look. Where is the balance RE: Greenwood? Where is the balance RE: Coburn’s violent conduct? Where is the balance when Crooks commits 3 fouls and says fuck off to the ref all in the first half?
