Boro thread

You can beat 11 men you daft twat but you can’t beat 12.

Enjoy it.
Didn't realise you had two sent off.
In the same fixture last season, we (wrongly imo) had a player sent off and a penalty given against us whilst the score was 0-0.
Similar thing happen to you yesterday .
Surely there should be some sort of plan in place , in case anything goes wrong (sending off, injury etc).

There's players getting sent off most weekends, it doesn't always drastically affect the outcome of matches - it's up to managers etc to cope with the situation.

Boro started the game well, had most of the possession without creating much but for 20 mins were on top. After the first 20 I thought we exerted more control and I would say we’re the best side for the remainder of the half.

It was a good tight game with everything still to play for.

Red card changes it all but our tactical response to going to 10 men from Mowbray was awful and was reflected in the score line.

Boro did exactly what I expected them to which was dominate the ball and stay patient.

Down to 10 you need a good game plan, players to let the red card frustration not affect them, a little bit of luck and some decisions from the ref …..we got none of that.

Let’s hope we learn from it and can bounce back after the international break.

The ref screwed us over. Fairly obvious.
The way Mowbray set us up second half after the sending off was ridiculous, you’d think we’d had three sent off, not one. Our home record, 7 wins in 23 last season and lost 3 out of 6 to date this season is simply unacceptable and very damaging to our overall progress if not improved.

They dominated us because we had nobody that could play holding midfielder properly, everyone on the pitch was attack minded.

It’s the one of the most important areas of the pitch, that’s why clubs are paying £100m+ for players in that position now.

Dan Neil was the only player we couldn’t afford to be sent off yesterday.

Thought 1st 15/20 minutes they played some really good stuff, but with ever really threatening. We then started to get a bit of control, got Clarke and Roberts on the ball more, and looked more threatening. Great save to deny Roberts, but he really should score.

The sending off is bollocks, as is the decision to not send off Coburn for a blatant elbow.

2nd half Mowbray got it wrong in a big way. With no striker, we needed Clarke and Roberts to step up. Instead we had Clarke at left back, and seemed to be a 5-3-1 so Roberts tucked inside. Clarke got murdered, and we had no attacking threat. Changing it to 4-4-1 after we were 2-0 down was far too late, and Boro could and should have had more than they ended up with.

Really surprised TM didn’t bring Triantis on and move O’Nien or Hume into central midfield alongside Bellingham. I think the biggest issue was that we went to wing backs and boro did what we did to QPR and doubled up on us out wide and Jones had a field day. At one point our midfield consisted of Bellingham, Robert’s and Aouchiche, with Ba upfront. We were quite unfortunate for the third as did look offside, but game was over by then anyway. What was rally disappointing was the first goal Aouchiche getting turned by their centre half albeit a good finish from Greenwood.

I may be wrong but I think that’s why we let Boro have more of the ball in the opening exchanges to try and draw them out rather than like many teams sitting back and hitting us on the break - saying that I thought boro caused us some problems particularly in central areas from the outset. Also they just looked bigger and stronger than us for those 20 minutes, but we did grow into the game and Robert’s really should have scored to put us in front.

Yeah, I think you're wrong....Boro were on top because of their tactics onto ours

Think Boro had a lot of the ball, first 20/25 mins without really creating much, then we were more positive until the sending off.
Think sky put something on screen that Jack had 2 touches first 20 mins then 20 touches second 20 mins, we were deffo on the front foot.
Great stop by their keeper to keep scores level.
Stupid decision by ref but Dan didn’t help himself
Ref blew for half time and wasn’t even watching the centre forwards elbow into Dan Ballard throat, that was a shocker.
Big Tony set us up wrong second half and Boro we’re in total control, the right back had a field day.

Forget about it and move on

Spot on that . Can’t a get a fairer summary.

Well done Boro they deserved their win based on the 2nd half.

Just a shame what should and could have been a good game of football was effectively ended just before half time.

Gutted it’s the international break, although the players could probably do with a break before Stoke & Leicester

I haven’t looked at the thread and so don’t know if anyone else has brought this up.
BUT even now, after time to calm down, Coburn’s elbow not even being considered, never mind him getting a deserved red for it.
I was furious at the time and I am still furious now.
Even more than the scoreline or Neil’s rush of blood with waving his arms.
Coburn’s elbow was blatant! No wonder Ballard wanted to kill him!

Surely even the most idiot fan can see today was ruined by the ref, whatever side you support. Shame the player he sent off was our only CM so then we were fucked. Boro played the hand they were dealt fair play but just what good have been a competitive game ruined by a shite ref, shame.
Hang on a minute your player should have got a straight red for a ridiculous studs up lunge, then gets himself sent off for running up to and swearing at the ref which has been made clear is an instant yellow this season, what else could the ref do, overlook the law change ? I didn’t see any of you lot complaining last season when Fry got a red for a pretty debatable 50/50 challenge which started outside the box and ended up a red and a penalty. Your player got what he deserved in the end because he definitely got away with the first incident

What about your player (Greenwood) whilst on a yellow with a studs-up challenge on Seelt? What about him kicking the ball away (instant yellow, you say?).
What about Coburn elbowing Ballard in the throat? Was that one ok?

Waving his arms.

Watch it back he pointed to the wing where Clarke had been getting booted all over.
