VARguments

Mistakes happen, human error. I don't like VAR and don't believe we should have it because human error is part of the game. In this case, even VAR is not free from human error.

So it takes a replay guy to tell 2 top level refs they've messed up . My world we all know how bad the refs are in England but this is another level . They shouldn't be allowed to officiate again this season

It does show they are under pressure to give quick decisions, but they need to actually take a breath first and confirm a decision as you have pointed out.

Did the ref request the check? Didn't hear that on the audio.

Any VAR check should always start with the ref requesting the check, informing the VAR room of the on field decision.

I.E. can I have a check on the on field decision for offside

Any goal or disallowed goal is automatically checked.

aren't all 'goals' checked for offside anyway by VAR regardless?

the main VAR ref clearly wasn't watching the game live. and it all happened to quick for the assistant VAR to save him

Never heard any comms from the ref. It was a bit shambolic to be honest. As you say, human factors.
No matter how many times we tell people at work what to do and how to follow a procedure and give them regular training, some still fail to follow basic instructions. To err is human.

Obviously they’ve been told to speed up the decision process

They’ve just rushed through it and made an absolute hash of it at best or at worst they’ve not been paying attention

bet the VAR ref will have felt like absolute shit when he realised poor fucker

It's always happened and always will, human error.
There's no excuse to look at a screen and check a straight line and still get it wrong. It's a factual onside or offside.

Penalty decisions and on field decisions I can accept. Not a blatant misunderstanding or half arsef attempt and them doing their jobs.

The PL are f***ing stupid not bringing in semi-automated offsides like the other major leagues because the clowns in charge of var are thick as pig shit.

Truthfully what's this going to achieve with Liverpool banging on about it

Nothing will change and it was a mistake, not like the result changes.

This would immediately eliminate any confusion or misunderstanding and would also ensure the on field officials still have to make a decision rather than just relying on VAR to check every goal. That would limit the hold ups because blatantly obvious offsides wouldn't require a "check request"

If it improves the system and communication then it's worth it.

Like @Grumpy Old Man said, why just say check complete? Say what the decision is like check complete for offside or goal etc. It's a complete joke they check it's onside because they thought the goal was given.

Don't rugby explicitly say checking for a try etc.
