Prem Update

Disagree, you need to adjust playing the direct, rely on brute strength approach and you simply haven't. It's not light years ahead, I watch it regularly, there's a lot of over-rated, average players in the league and too many clubs failing to achieve value for money with their transfer dealings.
We have changed our playing style, you have to adapt. Trouble is, if you can only spend £20M on quality it will be a struggle. The top 7 would spend the same on an unknown player from Ecuador and loan him back.

No whinges, we always knew it would be a tough season. Still beats getting hammered at the likes of Gateshead and Hayes and Yeading though.

I was asked on this board if I'd still post after we lost four/five games. So here goes;

The Prem League is light years above the Championship. Sounds obvious but the quality live is so different from watching on Sky. I'm a passionate Luton fan but also a passionate football fan.

Watching the likes of Mitoma, Bowen, Sterling etc has been strangely enjoyable. The huge difference though is the quality of defending. Prem League defenders are like 200m sprinters, built like brick shithouses with superb tactical nous.

The downside though is the complete lack of atmosphere. I sat in Brighton and Fulham end for our recent away games. It was full of tourists who spent more time on their phones than watching the game. Chelsea was the same apparently.

Still loving it though and looking forward to tomorrow.

Great start for yourselves as well. Seems you have added well to the squad and only lost one loan player. Your squad seems far stronger this season, which you need during the slog of March/April//May. Best of luck.

Finally, one lad on here is a Hertha fan. We went last weekend. What a stadium and what an atmosphere.
Enjoy it. You earned it.

Keep posting every now and then

Go up take the money and dont spend too much....seems that what you are doing..........come down and go back up again with stronger squad......problem you have is attracting players so not sure if this yo-yo plan works for Luton.......Fulham did it well but they are in west London

Good post and also a good observation about defending / defenders. It’s much more difficult scoring goals in the PL. enjoy the rest of the season, take something of Saudi Arabia if you can.

Fair play for posting.

Enjoy your time there as best you can.

Ive seen plenty shite but displays like 15 mins onwards v blackburn suggest we could compete with a few sides there, which is all you need to do i guess to survive.

I'm not coming on here for an argument. I'm not knocking the Championship as I love the competiveness of the division. I'm also under no illusions we will be back there next season.

However, the Premier is a huge step up. Your comment about 'style of play' is far off the mark as well.
I don’t see that Luton are either playing “the beautiful game” or that the style of football you are playing is anything other than from a bygone era.

Not meaning at all to be unpleasant, but it is not exactly tika taka stuff.

And by the way, I don’t mind it… if you play to your strengths, then more power to your elbow. Hopefully you will pick up some points soon - and hopefully it will be against the bar codes.

I mean, he seems sound enough in fairness, but he's talking to a fanbase who not long ago saw almost 400 consecutive Premier League games, and here he is with his four.
In fairness, my post could read as patronising although it wasn't meant to be.

I went to plenty of Prem League games during your period in the Prem (corporate freebies). Trust me, the standard of defending has evolved massively over the last four years.

May be difference in class but you're trying to play like them instead of playing to how you got promoted.

Cheers for that insight.

We've only had 16 seasons in the PL, including 10 in a row from 2006-2016, so I wasn't sure that defenders in the PL are fast.
To be fair to the Luton fan mate, I think we would notice a difference in the 5 or 6 years we’ve been away. Not necessarily when you play Man City or Liverpool but when you just cannot get the ball off or hurt a Brentford, Brighton, Palace. The PL is a massive problem for everyone outside the premier league (in this country and in Europe). It’s grotesque as a competition and in every sporting sense, although admittedly it’s quite good to watch.

A few people on here still got sour grapes after the playoffs . I'm at peace with it, a game too far us with decimated squad, certainly don't blame luton for that.

Hope they get a least a few enjoyable wins this season, it's a long season when you end up dreading every weekend. Would be great to see them take a couple of wins against the murderers, the meltdowns would be epic.

I wouldn't know mate, I don't have a TV licence either.
