Danielle McGahey - First trans cricketer to play ICC status match

I am Boss

Winger

I am assuming the members of the board will hold a variety of opinions on the matter

I’m a big supporter of the women’s game and I’m conflicted on this one. I usually find the reaction to trans women in sport to be blown out of proportion, and while I don’t think there’s a safety concern in cricket, I’ve looked at some of her scorecards where she has twatted the opposition around. Averaged just shy of 70 in 2022. So a competitive issue perhaps could arise.

Looks like the equivalent of when local league clubs could recruit proper gun international players.

It’s a nightmare when playing against 2nd teams in our division and their first team bowlers 2 or 3 divisions above get thrown in

I do worry about the effect it could have on the competitiveness.

Wasn't this thread originally in normal thread? I came back on to reply and couldn't find it looked for a bit then thought Cricket forum? Maybe it was and it somehow caught my eyes.

Weird shift cos I don't think this is really about cricket

At least she won't have to wear a box now (I have no idea if lasses wear a box of some sort tbh)
Oh i think "She" will

As long as the other players in the team are comfortable with this, i know there's been issues with female athletes being very uneasy with trans women in their changing rooms. but also fear speaking out too as not wanting to appear transphobic, personally im of the opinion of if they still have the "tools of the trade" they shouldn't be allowed to share womens spaces

At least this has been posted on the cricket forum so we should see some sensible debate.

But as per earlier points it's very difficult for a male transitioning to a female not to have some advantages over their female counterparts.

To be honest this is just the same sh*t different sport. We have had this discussion about Ann Andres, Lia Thomas, Laurel Hubbard, Andrea Yearwood, Fallon Fox and many many many more

Danielle McGahey is just another in a long list.

In an interview with the BBC Danielle was quoted as saying "I am absolutely honoured to be able to represent my community it is something I never dreamed I would be able to do." I am absolutely sure Danielle is not talking about the sisterhood or woman in general.

There is little opportunity for women and girls to shine in sports anyway without having more and more opportunities to perform on the big stage taken away from them.

Sex based rights and opportunities are what shores up women's rights and being able to change gender (especially self ID), are eroding those rights and opportunities for females who were born female.

They’ve met eligibility rules so they can play. Many sports are giving trans players an opportunity, if it works out we could be seeing trans footballers in the near future

In the men's game? I very much doubt it. It will be males who have gone through puberty playing in womans teams.

In the women’s game aye. It’s theoretically possible a biological woman could mix it with the fellas but they’d have to be built like Miss Trunchbull

It’s very much about cricket. Women’s cricket in particular
Oh I must have noticed it in that headline bit at the front cos (sorry) don't usually peruse the cricket thread.

I think most who post on this board know how I feel about trans women competing it in women's sports and I was definately commenting on the wider issue rather than it being cricket specific.

Anyway I will leave it to you cricketers to discuss from a cricket fans perspective
