Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “Eliezer is an exciting, quick and direct player, who's equally effective with the ball to feet or running beyond opponents. We are delighted to welcome him to Sunderland AFC and I’m sure our fans will enjoy watching him and following his journey with us. He’ll naturally need some time to adapt and integrate, but he’s full of ambition and I know how much he’s looking forward to showing everyone what he's capable of.”

Not sure what you can make of that, I'd suggest his fee would make him pencilled in for third choice?

He’ll need time to adapt and integrate doles t sound like immediate starter to me, mate.

If we do sell him it’ll tell us all we need to know about the ambition of the club and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mowbray leave.

He obviously doesn’t think Hemir is ready as he’s given him one start and has preferred a not fully fit Dack to him.

It would be absolutely disastrous to sell Stewart this week.

It would be but doubt anyone would be surprised

No, I'm just suggesting he would need to be a third choice rather than fourth as the minutes provided would differ hugely which dictates how many strikers we would be buying.

Maybe they're planning a Bennette style integration but that wouldn't make sense to me, I'd be surprised he would sign up for that either. I'd be surprised if Bennette signed up for his style of integration to be fair.

I’ve always got the impression he’s going to be a slow burner tbh and I don’t see the fee (at that amount anyway) as an indicator either way if we are expecting it to be small compared to his overall potential sale fee.

I would imagine we have trawled Europe for strikers in the £3.5m bracket only to be quoted 6/7/8m.

But if we get £8m+ for Stewart then we can then go back in for one of them.

They would probably then quote 8,/9/10 and the agent add a few mill to the contract if they knew we had that cash.

Southampton should be told he is going nowhere without a replacement in unless they offer stupid money.

The club need to be bigger than waiting to be paid before making a move. Will cost them more in the long run.

I would keep him, letting him go for circa 6mil without someone in will be false economy in my opinion.

Plus it's strengthening a rival.

I know Southampton are minted and all that but I find it hard to believe they would bid £8m for a relatively unproven striker that could even potentially be permanently crocked.

I think the manager has admitted his interest. We should add two million on for him being an unsettling prick.

It’s a massive risk.

There’s absolutely no guarantee any of those lads will be good enough this season or ever.

Stewart is in the prime of his career and has been absolutely superb for us.

I actually can’t believe how easily people are saying we should let him go.
We absolutely shouldn’t and I’m sure they’re offering as much as possible for him to stay. We’ll all be gutted when he goes but if he’s set on leaving then they’ve got to sell him for as much as possible. We can’t keep being crap at selling players! We’ve not made profits on players consistently for decades, the financial mismanagement can’t continue

Think we all know we wont though

I’m not against selling players per se.

But it has to be at the right time and where we have adequate cover of sufficient quality.

Stewart is arguably our most important player and we have no one to come in and replace him. It’s not like if we sold Phillips back in the day and had Quinn Bridges and Dichio as alternatives.

At the end of the season though we won’t have much choice as his contract ends

Like others have said, it basically could come down to how good we are at wheeling and dealing to get in a replacement

Keeping a player who could feel like a move, that could see him playing at a higher level next year, has been frustrated and who is also coming back from the latest of a series of injuries would be a difficult and risky call
