Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

The bloke who “looks in to things” at the club told my mate that Stewart won’t be signing a new contract, that was at a networking conference thing at the Sol a few weeks ago
Right well the club have to get shot.
Thanks for everything ross but we move on...

At this stage I genuinely don't give a shit. Get him moved on if he won't take what's offered in the pay structure. He might never be the same player again, be stupid to be held to ransom by him and his agent.

Real life isn’t it, and it’s often mentioned that players often know what each other earn.

“Ross Stewart is on £30k a week so I want that too”.

“I’ll tell you what Lynden. You start scoring a goal every other game for us, and in a year or twos time we can talk about it. Until then, fuck off”.

I think that’s the reality of the situation, to be honest. The “we can’t pay X that, because then everyone else will demand the same” line is absolute bollocks; and a sign of how deep the “poor little us” mentality that the club has pushed in recent years now runs.

As if Jewison Bennette currently thinks he’s being paid as much as Jack Clarke.

I take what fishpaste says with a pinch of salt. But if it’s true, and it’s a case of Ross wanted 25k for three years and we are losing a player of this calibre for a risk of 1.8million outlay over 3 years, it’s shocking mind.
Is it though? He wants to be paid that after barely playing for ages following a serious injury?

So now you also understand why we couldn't offer the same wages as a club that just received £100m just for getting relegated.

Are you operating under the assumption that Southampton are just going to waste their money?

Whatever a club at this level is willing to offer him is - by exact definition - his championship market value. That’s what a market is.

The important fact is that if another club at our level is willing to pay our best player more than us, as well as a transfer fee we wouldn’t need to pay, then it’ll be a disgrace. And a huge worry.

People who are desperate to keep up this apologetic, excuse-making facade might try to say otherwise, but it’s true. It would be a seriously concerning and revealing development.

Get your mortgage on “undisclosed fee” for transfer out and replacement (in the loosest sense of the word) in, too. After all, we wouldn’t us supporters of poor little Sunderland doing the sums, would we?
Paying more than anybody else is just a quick way to go back to where we’ve already been. The owner overpaid & realised it wasn’t sustainable. We were in a hole & essentially got out of it by nearly going bust.

My point isn’t we should or shouldn’t pay whatever Southampton may offer, my point is you or me don’t know the figures to make an educated response, never mind the sweeping statements you’re making.

Southampton could very well sign Stewart for a decent fee & put him on a wage that is way higher than our top player, the fact is he’s been injured for nearly a year, with an injury some players don’t recover from. That’s another additional risk, smashing the wage structure for someone that doesn’t contribute. Would you pay over your budget for a product that may or may not work?

As for the undisclosed fee, of course it will be. Very few aren’t these days.

As a "journalist" he knows some fans are chewing themselves to death about transfers so he makes up a story about stewart and the bairns piss themselves while clicking said story its not hard is it ?

I dont need to know the figures. My argument is that we should pay him his worth based on his market value for our division. If he leaves to go to another club in our division, it means we would t pay him his worth, based on his market value at this level.

I’m saying that would be both (1) a massive cause for concern; and (2) downright disgraceful, particularly given that we can offset a chunk of any wage settlement by virtue of the fact we would t be paying a fee for him (an advantage no other team has).

Southampton have about £150m of it more than us, because of the nature of PL tv money and parachute payments. We'll never know the facts but they could give him £50,000 per week and not even worry about it.

What we needed to do, was sort his contract before he's really proven himself. Like we did with plenty others.

Eh? How the fuck is the bloke who’s played mostly right back going to do that? De Bruyne doesn’t score as many goals as Haaland, that’s not his job.

Patterson is just as important to us as any other player. How can he be compared to Stewart & his performances?

As another poster has pointed out in this thread - for all of his sensationalism Fishpaste has a decent track record on transfer and contract stories.

Eh? Mate he started his championship career ridiculously well. Speakman said we weren’t happy with offs. If taking a 1.8 million pound risk over 3 years is too much of a risk that statement is false surely!!

Bingo. Have a gold star,

It’s almost as if the lads who regularly put the ball in the net, cost the most money.

Someone should let the architects of the “model” know, quick. It could be a proper lightbulb moment in “model” HQ.

Just cos somebody else will pay a wage to a player doesn’t mean it’s market value. It means someone else is a mug.

I’d say you were on a wind up if your posting history didn’t suggest you talk complete shite the majority of the time.
