What is his worth though? If we can't afford it we can't afford it. It's not like his worth across the entire Championship would be say £20k, his worth is whatever someone is willing to pay. So clubs that have more money will always be able to offer more.

Don’t be daft man. Just be glad that a 20odd year old with no money and half a degree course under his belt, and a bloke who knows Jude Bellinghams dad, are here to save poor little Sunderland from the existential danger of paying the going rate for footballers at our level.

You got yourself there in the end. His worth at this level, is dictated by the market at this level. We should be paying him his worth. Not least as no other club at this level can have him without paying an up front fee on top of his wages.

I take what fishpaste says with a pinch of salt. But if it’s true, and it’s a case of Ross wanted 25k for three years and we are losing a player of this calibre for a risk of 1.8million outlay over 3 years, it’s shocking mind.

People obviously don’t understand the conundrum of giving in to what ever wage he wants.
Give him a bumper contract then you’ll have Roberts and Clarke wanting the same amount, the others will then want to get up to higher level and so the domino effect roles on.

I dunno, if nothing else he seems to love the coaching side of it and how close he is to home. He's obviously a bit more old school in the way he wants the club to operate, but he has done a good job without Stewart and I think he'll try to see it through.

I think there is little chance he is here next season though.

I seem to remember when we signed Cisse under Keane, he made it clear that we wanted to sign a top tier player who would be the highest wage in the squad.

Especially when some on here would be happy if the club stumped up 1 million plus wages for Cannon on loan. It would be absolute madness.

And that shows the ambition of the club, fair enough sell him, but if they don’t replace with quality then KLD is making mugs of the fans
