Boro thread

Still too early in the season to be screwing down any team's coffin lid
Basically we’ve lost our best players and not replaced them and Gibson won’t spend money. Not a chance we will go down no chance but at the same time promotion no way. Want the season to end already comments on here are basically right. May end up right regarding carrick but he’s not been backed
Said on another thread, Carrickball will be in the Tees by October.
Maybe, the problems we have are with the recruitment team not carrick every good manager has struggled under it

Said it on another thread, but Boro's numbers were very good under Wilder and suggested results would turn for them sooner rather than later.

That's exactly what happened, but as Carrick had just come in, all the credit went to him despite the numbers showing it would happen regardless.

Of course that was dismissed by the usual suspects and Carrick instead was anointed as the second coming of Fergie.

Carrick did nothing special last season. He reached the playoffs with a playoff level squad who were posting playoff level numbers and had a playoff level wage bill

Imagine if we were bottom then went all the way to the play offs people would be very happy with mowbray

In my view, Steve Gibson has been a superb chairman.

He took a bankrupt club whose stadium gates had been locked by bailiffs to Premier League, and a UEFA Cup Final. By rights, by now he should have earned sainthood, a massive statue, and his name on the stadium and numerous Teesside streets. And he has sacrificed a lot doing this.

These days, the finances in the Premier League are mental. And the finances amongst Championship clubs are generally unsustainably stupid trying to chase this dragon.

I hope he can get out before it ruins him, or Boro turn on him because he hasn't got the stupid money needed to put up against clubs with parachute payments. He deserves to retire still wealthy and still recognised as the hero he is.

Said it before say it again has to be his haulage firm keeping them afloat

it made £60 million last year

Boro’s recruitment relies too much on loans which means

1) every season there is huge turnover in players
2) every season squad only takes shape at end of window
3) every season a slow start is inevitable

Good
They were ludicrously smug last season and I’m not sure why exactly? Cos they finished slightly above us? Embarrassing 🤣
Ludicrously smug?
I don't know a single Boro fan who was 'smug' about finishing above you, or of thinking we were any better than we were.
It was pretty obvious we were nowhere near ready to be promoted.

Yes, we've 'lost' the loan players from last season - but they were premier league players.
If they weren't staying at their own clubs, they were always going to go to premier league clubs.
You lost your wonderkid didn't you?
I thought their recruitment would be better. Just like us they have some big gaps to fill before the window shuts.
Exactly.
It's never gonna be easy replacing quality loan players though
