The Hundred 2023

It’s also perfectly reasonable to say it’s good to see fans at any ground and the more people watching cricket the better, wherever that may be.

Not getting it are you…..?? I’m not surprised.
However what is not up for debate for me is that everyone at these games seems be throughly enjoying the cricket which has to be a good thing??

Everyone… really? You sure about that?

All I have ever wanted is simple more people watching cricket more people taking up the game

That’s it plain and simple and the core principle I have through every discussion on this subject.

I like to see people enjoying sport and enjoying cricket.

Can’t be bothered no more, going round in circles.

Must soo f***ing tiresome twisting and been negative about every single subject, I don’t know how you do it
The Metro Cup one-day game tomorrow (Sunday) Worcestershire vs Warwickshire totally sold out. Great news for the New Road club and for the competition.
It’s always great seeing loads of people watching cricket

Really confused by this??? They have sold around 800 tickets and members allocation is around 4000 of which 1000 will turn up.

Tickets went off sale online yesterday Friday as available on the day. So less than a third full estimated crowd of 2000.

Warwickshire had 500 tickets available to members and less than 100 sold.

The grievance people have about the t20 oh I mean the hundred is why cricket needs.to move on and thankfully most against it won't be here in 20 years time anyway.

That's the whole point.
Warwickshire highest T20 attendance 9,000 this season.

Hundred women's game record crowd at Edgbaston 10,50 more than T20 biggest crowd.. Men's game 13,000 first game on Thursday.

Show the real stats and figured don't make them up tonight your agenda you won't be here to see the hundred take over.

Just like the anti t20 brigade aren't 20 years ago.

My agenda? You seem to forget these counties are one county. These daft crisp sides in some cases are several counties so have a bigger target audience for a home side. The attendances will be a concern to the 16.4 chiefs especially as the competition is basically bankrupting the ECB and they're now having to change their own rules to accommodate 30+ year old Colin Ackermann to have a game.... They doesn't scream a prime competition costing millions does it? There are no further tickets on sale for Worcester tomorrow, that should be applauded massively. I haven't made up a single statistic in my post about Worcester. Worcestershire have announced a sell out with no further tickets for sale. I haven't made anything up at all. If you know better than advise the Worcester ticket office. It's excellent news for the one day cup which has been badly neglected by the ECB.

That poster just makes stats and numbers up out of thin air time and time again. Don’t worry about them.

F*cking rich coming from you isn’t it?

Well, this may come as a shock, but it’s actually the opposite that is happening.

more people taking up the game

More people will take it up following England’s two World Cup wins and their recent Ashes fightback.

That’s it plain and simple and the core principle I have through every discussion on this subject.

It’s clear as mud and massively flawed.

Can’t be bothered no more, going round in circles.

It’s all anyone ever does with you because you struggle to grasp even the most basic pieces of the English language.

Must soo f***ing tiresome twisting and been negative about every single subject, I don’t know how you do it

It’s ‘soo f***ing tiresome’ trying to explain the most basic concepts to you, because time and time again we come back to this debate about ‘growing the game’ and time and time again you completely fail to understand the notion that ‘growing the game’ as the ECB want you to believe (to which you’ve fallen for hook, line and bastard sinker) is a massive oxymoron when the administrators are ACTUALLY shrinking it by cutting off ATLEAST (I’d argue it’s more) 55% of their core support.

This tournament may get a few youngsters doing that but the tournament hasn't taken off. Success by the England teams have more chance of doing that.

Current long standing cricket fans dislike the Hundred because of the way the ECB has tried to shit on traditional cricket and its fans to try to make is a success.

We are the current 50 over World champions after 44 years of trying. What do the ECB do? Downgrade it to what it is now.

The ECB were miffed they didn't copyright the T20 and had to watch as the format took off in a massive way in India.

They came up with the Hundred and patented it. They probably thought the big bucks will roll in. Bizarrely nobody else wants it. I wonder why that is.

My concern is the longer the Hundred goes on the more potential damage it will do to cricket in this country.

Scrap it and put some of the T20 games on the BBC including finals day. I know the BBC moan about T20 being too long but surely putting cricket on is better than the rubbish they put on at present. Never seems to be an issue televising football.

This is my main worry. Very very concerned as this competition is costing an absolute fortune and they're now at the stage where they're having to amend their own rules to draft Colin Ackermann in for a game.... Is this really value for money??

Don’t disagree with most of that apart from the solely putting downgrading of 50 over cricket at the ECBs door.

Once T20 took off like it did, it was inevitable 50 over cricket domestically would be less high profile which has happened in every country not just England.

However on your other points broadly agree up to a point.

My argument is not to defend the hundred as such but more to defend the need to have a major short form tournament in peak time to attract new fans, I believe the sport badly needs due to decreasing numbers at ground level.

Would actually prefer and I have always said as a player and follower of cricket for 50 years would prefer that tournament to be 20 overs and not 100 balls!

At the moment unfortunately the current tournament is 100 balls rather than 20 overs and unfortunately only covers a certain amount of the country and totally get and understand peoples view it needs to be spread more geographically.

However it’s on the telly every day and fans in the ground seem to be having a great time watching cricket.

I personally think that a good thing and will never be a person celebrating the fact a cricket match wherever that maybe has a low crowd!!

Because that’s the exact opposite of what cricket needs

Can’t disagree with anything said there.

On the surface it comes across as a huge success but for the amount of time, investment and resources put into it, it’s largely flopped. When you draw a lower viewing figure to BBC than Rugby League & Snooker then you’re properly fucked.
