56 is 24/7, once every top of the hour during the night. With the £2 cap in bus fares in place til atleast October .. That route used to be only a quid during the night but the petrol crisis came. 60 used to be 24/7 also until petrol crisis came.

Common sense would have been to do the sub surface portion before the surface but there you go. The old South entrance (main station entrance since 1966) had separate ramps down to each island platform so it'll be interesting to see whether the future ramp or escalator is there, blocked off.

If you want later or through the night trains the drivers have to do night shifts and be paid for it as do the signallers and any other staff who need to be on duty. It will bring no money in as unless you have ticket inspectors nobody will pay their fare. Then there's the risk to staff and passengers from rowdy pissheads.

I'm not seeing through the night, but an hour after it currently does would be beneficial.

I've got that bus before and it just takes forever but I admitt it's better then paying for a taxi

That was my point earlier. I'm no architect or planner but it would make sense to me to do the subsurface portion before doing the surface building. Otherwise they'll have to squash all the construction work in later on. It's about right for all the f***ups they've made over the years though.

According to the station staff no sub surface work is planned. Have you heard anything to the contrary?
 
I seem to remember in the early 90's as a bairn that part of the track was open to the elements (maybe behind cassaton house), I am wondering if this is something that could be done again as it would really help brighten the station up, even if it is some type of Glass panels instead of the pavment in that section of the road

The point of the scheme was supposed to be to restore the station to it's pre 1966 layout with 2 "island" platforms giving a total of 4 separate platforms and eventually to demolish the former Littlewoods building and construct a new North entrance. "If" they actually intend to do that it makes no sense to build the South entrance but leave the platforms as they are since it will be a huge amount of work not only to alter the platforms but install track, signalling and overhead wires for the Metro. All you'll have is a shiny new building with the same depressing hole underneath.

There have been about 3 rebuilds since 1966 and every time they make it worse. A new building won't tackle the problem of shortage of platforms and like I said when they finally address that it will be yet another rebuild followed by another if they do the North entrance. It's like Right Said Fred.

They had hanging baskets of flowers which won some award - inner city stations in bloom or something.

Soon after they blocked out the only light in one of the improvements.

The sun only shone in from late morning till about 13:00 methinks.
