The "Obscene" comment was by Sri Lankan British journalist Vithushan Ehantharajah. I think it was said in a positive sense, something similar to "he hit a six off his last ball in cricket. Outrageous" kind of thing

The umpires changed the ball, was absolutely nothing to do with England. Another one fuming because England won the test :lol:

It’s like the cool kids saying “sick” meaning good….or “wicked” meaning great.

That is not to say that the Aussies won’t be crying in their crappy lager. They WANTED to win that series so badly, it will feel like a loss not doing so.
Yeah, they will console themselves outwardly by stating that they retained the Ashes….but deep down they will be churned up by not winning.
Especially from a 2-0 lead…..🤣🤣🤣

I really hope Root can acheive both of those things in Australia.

The real blemish on his career, the lack of ton is Aus.

A series win in India in 2024 would be lovely too.I'd take a drawn one even :lol:

It’s in their hands. If India prepare wickets like the raging turners last time they win. It wouldn’t matter if it was bazball or not. If they are bit more balanced flat and taking reasonable spin then it could be a good series.

Trying to get the ball changed is attempted by all teams when things aren't quite going their way - it's not something practiced only by England. The Aussies tried it plenty of times themselves - it just didn't work out as well for them.

As you rightly point out, it's the umpires who select the 'new' ball, not the bowling team - they have no input other than hoping the one they get is better for them than the old one. It could just as easily turn out to be worse.

It can often be psychological too - the bowlers just feeling better about getting rid of a ball they have convinced themselves is unresponsive.

I can't believe how much is being made of it by the Aussie pundits and press - and they call us whingers. It's so hypocritical it's almost parody. Did England whinge as much in an earlier game when our openers had to go back out for half-a-dozen overs in terrible light conditions resulting in them losing their wickets? Do other teams whinge about Smith and Labuschagne twitching and gurning at the crease? Re-taking their guard every other ball and adjusting their gear? That can be just as off-putting as anything Broad did with the bails.

They simply don't like the fact that their much-vaunted World Champion team were pushed all the way in almost every game and, if England had been just a little more clinical, should be heading home without The Ashes having had their @rses kicked 4-1 or worse.

NB - I don't believe for an instant that @sonson is fuming that England won the game, he's just pointing out the partisan nature of supporting a team that you desperately want to win (or, at least, not get beat) against one of their biggest rivals.

Last time some of the wickets were borderline unplayable they turned that much.

If they do the same can’t see any other result than an India win.

But would go down fighting than meekly surrender like we did last time

5 different grounds was only 2 due to COVID last time.

The rank turners were at that new massive stadium named after the horrible leader of India in Ahmedabad.

So hopefully might be a bit better. We didn't get rank turners in 16/17, we were just terrible after that first test.

If a mardy 6yr old was eloquent enough, thats exactly how it would read.
If, for instance a batsman can take a bail off to mark his guard, which many do these days, think Chanderpaul started that years ago a bowler surely has the right to use the bails for something else, as long as they are replaced correctly.
The ball change?..thats up to the umpires, the only criteria I know of is that the replacement ball has to fulfill the criteria of a the same or similar amount of overs bowled as the current ball.
Seems some Aussies can't even retain the ashes in what was a great series with any amount of good grace.
