CC : Yorkshire vs Durham

This DT a bit dim. Going about Lees like he's not been doing this all season.

He’s harmless enough, just a little bit stuck in the past - the over where Lees went to his 50, which was when DT started making a big thing of him ‘going for the big yahoo’ was simply good percentage cricket, taking calculated risks with a high chance of a good outcome and very much the modern way basically.
Just as well we’re going up cos we may struggle to hold onto the likes of Lees otherwise. In fact we’d definitely struggle.

I’m not so sure I agree, with all the moves around the country lately it’s very clear that there’s a situation developing where there are a number of haves and a number of have nots - fortunately for us I would argue we’ve been one of the ‘haves’ for a couple of seasons now even though we’re in Division Two. It’s taken time for us to get back to where we belong since FTECB shafted us but we’re firmly on our way to getting back to being amongst the big boys now and whilst I’m not counting any chickens just yet - because we’re not quite there - it feels very much like we’re ready to take our seat amongst the elite again.
Could they look at changing rules, in that if you forfeit first innings, then bonus points count in 2nd innings, might help promote teams to go for wins still in rain affected games

Wouldn’t be a terrible idea, personally think the first thing that needs altering is to change the bonus points back to starting at 200 rather than 250 - in one minute they said they wanted fewer draws and in the next they made a change that would force teams to bat longer in order to get batting points 🤷‍♂️
Very little chance as stokes must get that knee sorted asap. I could see maybe one game for wood though .

Not a chance, Wood will be playing white ball games for England and then resting.

Should have just made the cut off 100 overs

I agree that perhaps the bonus points need looking at. Say you get a situation like Middlesex this week bowled out for 60 in a potential rain affected game, do you then chase the full 450 before declaring when in reality 250-300 gives you a huge first innings lead with a 2nd innings as insurance. If you do that though you lose 3 batting points.

Maybe increase the bonus points to say 5 for the bowling at 2,4,6,8 and 10 wickets, then award batting points at 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 in side the 110 overs. That would leave a max of 12 bonus points against 8 as it stands.

Anyway, weather looks a lot worse today on the BBC site than yesterday. Anyone down there confirm?

Here. Light rain. Could be one of those days
Groundstaff just sat out in the middle on the tractor.
Edit 11.30am the umpires are out inspecting.
Edit lunch at 12.30 with a further inspection at 1pm. What an absolute shambles.

With so many overs lost to this crap weather Durham should just concentrate on accumulating as many batting points as they can......when that opportunity eventually arises.

.

I think maybe my point has been missed. I meant that if we weren’t on the upward trajectory we are now we would struggle to attract and retain quality like Lees - if we were in the same position as last year and the years prior there’s not a chance we’d be able to hang onto a 30 year old leading run scorer who has aspirations of England again and will want to win trophies.

My main point is thank god we have sorted ourselves out.
