4th test Manchester

Some people are never happy. Complaining about declaring too early in the first Test and too late in this one. Must be great to be an armchair expert.

To be fair I didn’t complain about the Dec in the first test, thought it was the right thing to do.

I think we should have declared earlier in this test due to the forecast. I hope I’m wrong.

How can anyone complain about the declaration at this stage? It only becomes a bad declaration if they score less than 275 and we run out of time with them 7 or 8 down.

Brilliant destructive batting from Bairstow there. That's why he needs to be in the team, for his batting only. We can get Australia 5 down by the close of play like and I reckon we'd get enough play over Saturday and Sunday to get the rest.

Looking at the forecast I can't see a single ball being bowled tomorrow.

But if we had declared say 200 ahead we are more likely to bat again, still need the time to bat ourselves and score the deficit, have an innings change etc
We've just scored 66 in 8.1 overs for the last wicket. It will take 12-15 to score those runs at the start of the 2nd innings. Great captaincy from Stokes I reckon.
