4th test Manchester

It’s a canny idea I reckon, not one I’ve seen anyone mention before either. Fining the players simply isn’t working

I think it is, the umpires are getting far too easy a ride in this debate considering it is (and has always been) their job to keep the game moving.

With DRS and ‘automatic no balls’ their responsibilities are actually decreasing - people used to joke about umpires essentially just being ‘hatstands’ with the advent of DRS and the more I think about it the more I’m beginning to agree. In this game alone we’ve seen the umpire go upstairs for an ‘umpire review’ and whilst I totally applaud their decision on that particular point it’s high time they started doing more to keep the game moving. It’s their f*cking job.

County umpires manage to get county sides to bowl 96 overs in less time than it takes Test cricketers to struggle their way to 82/83 overs - so why can’t Test umpires?

In the ground with no commentary so harder to gauge what’s going on but I was surprised that we didn’t throw the bat in that last half hour.

Those Sky/BBC earpieces are great. They are well worth the cost and enhance the match completely. I've had one for about 4 seasons now and love listening to TMS when I'm at the match. I definitely recommend that you buy one👍.

It is not about them getting padded up.

There is a 10 minute break between innings.

If there is a declaration in an interval and there is less than 10 minutes left, they get 10 minutes from the time of the declaration.

I know, that was exactly the point I was making in response to the suggestion that we could/would declare one minute before the end of the luncheon interval.

But the ten minutes IS in a manner of speaking about allowing them time to get their pads on.
