The umpires have been rubbish, I think some of the reviews have been largely based on the fact the umpires have already got it wrong so many timesa few things that have underwhelmed me
1 Cameron Green. Pre series the Aussies were all bigging this lad up but imo his batting has been a bag of nerves , his bowling is ok but nothing special but he catches well
2 Boland. Another one who was supposedly perfect for England conditions and would run through England. Instead Cannon Fodder
3 the umpires , they keep on making errors in giving or not giving decisions and if it not for DRS this series would have been hindered by a lot more controversy than that run out by Carey , I think they have been awful all series and that’s for both sides
It's changed once it can change again.
But as it stands get out there and bat freely, if the balls doing too much and the wickets fall, we can declare and get straight into them.
They can just enjoy a two hour lunch today and a day off tomorrow.
Should have some play Sunday, unless the dumb rules mean we get no play because the dry spells aren't long enough "It's stopped raining, lets sit here for the best part of an hour before deciding whether to play".
TBh its that approach and negative team selection that has helped us in this match.Unfortunately Australia know all they need to do is slow the game down and not take any risks and the weather will do the rest. thats if they even get out to bat.
We need to bat on but the weather today will dictate how long. Time is everything. If we miss anymore than the morning session then we get in and try and score as quickly as possible for 45 minutes and then get them in. That should be 140 lead and we bat again if we need to. All scenarios are probably going to be ruined by the weather to be fair.Cannot see any benefit in declaring unless we somehow get 200 ahead*. Runs scored in this innings are runs that we do not need to score in our second innings. I think the strategy should be play the same as yesterday until 150 ahead and then try and smack everything out of the ground. Keeps the scoreboard ticking over and means our bowlers are not out there at the crease for too long.
*With the exception of Jimmy. Not much benefit in sending him out to bat.
The Aussies can dig in when it counts even on a deteriorating pitch so I think they will will have the potential to frustrate us when they bat next. Will be good for our bowlers to have a nice cushion to get aggressive with.
