I've known worse afternoons for the pair of them if I'm being honest.![]()
Anybody know what the record stans is for the 3rd wicket for Durham?
This one is probably some way off.
There’s another point that might be read across. I had the day off to go today. I nearly cancelled and worked as the weather apps were mixed and it’s a fair hike (not as much as for some as I live in North Yorks these days but enough). Bloody glad I ignored them. Hopefully they are comparably pessimistic in the days to come for Manchester. It’s actually quite remarkable how both of our teams seem to have followed the same path over the first two days of their respective games.
Durham probably didn’t bowl as well as England yesterday of course but came to the ground knowing the most important aspect of today was going to be their batting and Durham have actually gone about it more forcefully in terms of the scoring, even if not in terms of the strokes they’ve played - the deficit Durham have in comparison to England is obviously a difference but tomorrow mornings plan will be identical I think. Score another 100-150 as quickly as possible and look to be bowling after lunch.
Durham may be a bit more cautious regarding a declaration because of course we don’t have to win this game, but once we get 450 we’re probably in a position where we can’t lose (if the weather forecast is to be believed).

If it sounds like it I didn’t mean to so sorry. What? Have you misquoted me?
Given the weather forecast it doesn't look as if declaring after lunch is going to involve that a great risk as sadly it looks as if not much cricket is going to be played tomorrow. Knocking up 450/500 by lunch will probably see them to a draw but I think that they will then have to then skittle Derbyshire out for a couple of hundred by the end of the day to stand any chance of there being sufficient time to score a 300 so on Saturday. It’s actually quite remarkable how both of our teams seem to have followed the same path over the first two days of their respective games.

We'll win by an innings todayIF Durham draw
no chance of sussex winning and a very very small chance leicester could win
12 points would put us on 167 points. To achieve that we need to score 450 runs and draw the game which a draw is likely given the forecast tomorrow.
a defeat for leicester would put them on 111 points
a draw for sussex would put them on 114 points. a defeat (unlikely) would put sussex on 109 points.
a win for glamorgan would put them on maximum of 119 points.
a win for worcester would put them on 111 points
That would put us 48 points ahead of Glamorgan IF Glamorgan get full 24 points. 56 points ahead of Leicester IF Leicester lose which would put Worcester on 111 points also. 53 points ahead of Sussex if they draw.
We'll win by an innings today![]()
Conditions look like Potts will have fun. That would be really good. You just never know with this team.
