Equal Prize Money…


This issue has been discussed for years across many different sports, but this is the first time I've heard that a sport has come down on this side of the argument.

The issue is no one gets paid what they deserve. People get paid on the basis of the money that is generated and the wages they can command. Just as in tennis the men's game generates more interest and money than the women's game, so the men are paid more and I've heard professional women agree that that is fair.

So no. Women cricketers should not expect to be paid the same as men until their sport generates as much interest and as much cash. When it does, fair play.

Think it probably means that men's events subsidise women's events to make up the difference.

By which you mean men’s pay! So presumably the England women’s captain can expect the same salary as Ben Stokes!
 
I don't think it's fair for women to be paid less just because they're women, in fact in a work context that's illegal. But there's more to it than that.

It’s generally illegal if they’re doing the exact same job*, but of course in most professions people are paid based on their skill level/experience/qualifications etc.

With that considered, women cricketers aren’t doing the same job as their male counterparts.

*plenty grey areas around that too.
