CC : Durham vs Gloucestershire

One the few times this season where Durham haven't had it all their own way on the opening day and ironically wiith what was (on paper) our strongest bowling line up.

Thought me were a bit sloppy in the field with a couple of drops and 9 overthrows although Borthwick's catch was top drawer and Parkinson came back well after initially getting some punishment off Hammond.

Forecast looks iffy tomorrow but hopefully we'll have time to pick up the remaining 4 Gloucs wickets and start accumulating a big total.

I thought the same. It seemed like we didn't bowl well and they scored at will and they won the day and now we're in trouble.
But, when I look at the score 280/6, that doesn't look too bad. In fact , for a flat pitch it looks OK. We need wickets as quickly as we can manage but we are certainly not out of this by any means.
So, a bit luck with the ball, a good batting performance from Durham and game on!

I feel like 280-6 is a decent day for us considering how good the pitch appears and the fact that the ball didn’t swing at all for the entire day.

If we can get through them this morning for no more than 70 further I would suspect that with our batting lineup we’ll be confident of overhauling their score.

Weather looks to play a big part, with rain forecast on all the remaining days but hopefully it’ll turn out to be worse than what actually materialises. One thing that could work in our favour batting last however is that Gloucestershire could have a decision to make if they want to try and contrive a result and they may have to be generous.

Given the aforementioned lack of any sort of swing/seam movement I actually think we bowled quite well. We may have been fortunate in the end to have picked up wickets through some poor strokes, which assisted to overcome the drops, but I thought generally the lines we were bowling and the way the seamers kept running in hard all day was a positive.

Aye, think the aforementioned strength in our stack is why despite it looking easy for them relatively they never really got away from us and as said by a certain former Durham legends father - there's no team out there you'd be more confident in of chasing down 400 in a second innings.

Likewise with the likes of potts and Carse (if he gets in form) you'd back them to take wickets even on a lifeless pitch

Very much in this 😎
