Jimmy Anderson

essex boy

Striker
Can England continue to carry Jimmy if we are to be the worlds best test side? Would Jimmy get in the Aussie side? 5 years ago yes, today No

In the last three years Jimmy has taken 7 wickets in a test match (both innings) twice. He could not and still cannot bat. I would argue he isn't worth his place in the side, he does not go for many but I cant recall the last time he looked like running through a side

Jimmy is capable of the odd spell here and there but his best days are long gone. England should have a word in his ear as we cant afford to carry him nor for him to retire at the same time as Broad

If we’re carrying on with the process of bowling every day and playing on flat pitches then it’s hard to make a really convincing argument for him keeping his place. The strongest argument is that there still aren’t many much better, particularly on surfaces like this. Wood and Archer can’t stay fit

Whatever level of cricket you play even if your local 3rd XI, if someone is a yard or two quicker than the norm it creates havoc as batters have less time to react. Archer to date is still probably the only bowler to rattle Smith and put him on the floor so to speak. Robinson is younger of the three and Broad in form so no place for Jimmy and we desperately need at least one if not two quicks in the side

On flat surfaces can we rely on Robinson to trundle in bowling 76-80 mph? He looks like he’s lost fitness again to me

The pitches have been absolutely shit.

England have gotten themselves out in nearly all of the 28 wickets we've lost.

Also this stat is just f***ing ludicrous in England

Praying the selectors pick the right team for Old Trafford. Jimmy should not be playing

Wood needs to play not be rested. Robinson needs a rest whilst Tongue should be picked
There’s two back to back test matches and Wood won’t play both. I would go Jimmy, Wood, Broad and Woakes for OT. Jimmy because he was a class act before this series, his speeds are still 83/84 and on anything but the flattest of flat pitches he is still a very good bowler. Tongue will probably come in for Wood in the last test.

9 days rest between this and the next test and I think we need to win the next test or the 5th test could be irrelevant

Which is why Wood plays that test and his natural replacement Tongue will play the last one. If they play Tongue instead of Anderson at OT it would be a fair enough call but if the wicket is likely to have anything in it it would be Anderson for me.

If Australia’s quicks can play back to back games why can’t Tongue? I agree Wood is too fragile to play OT and the Oval mind..

PS glad you got there today, jealous doesn’t come close!
