3rd test - Headingley

Like with most cricket today about getting the balance right between attack and defence, just looking to defend puts more pressure on, and they will put plenty of balls in the right place even when we defending so we need to still be looking to score, if field back rotate the strike hit the gaps Root particularly good with that.

Absolutely must win come on!!!!

Heart possibly ruling the head but we can still win this series

Are they though? Cummins is world class, Starc is very good, Boland isn't all that, the spinner has done nothing yet.

Play tight, no mistake cricket and we win. Anyone spot the potential problem with that?
Cummins and Starc could take 5 each but I do think England are the favourites. theyve chased way more in the past year and a bit

Has it ever been done before?

For some reason I keep thinking about the Red Sox 2004, I went to see them live by chance in 2000, so figured they would be "my team".
They Made the world series in 2004 and I was doing a job in New York mid series when they went 3-0 down (best of 7).
I remember popping into a sports shop at JFK airport on way home and looking at a Sox cap, the owner chuckled (obviously a Yankee), I didn't really care that much and said "you never know".
Sox came back to win 4-3 (first time ever done) and break a 80 plus year hoodoo

It's weird cos I haven't though about that for so so long (I didn't buy the cap).

The thing with MLB games is that there always has to be a winner, it’s a bigger task ahead of us because a draw kills us too.

Agreed, last thing we need is a repeat of Friday when Root went second ball of the day. Play smart and sensible, leave the ball well and don’t have any unnecessary wafts at it (Duckett). They get an early wicket and their tails will be up. If we can get a solid foundation to see off the new ball then we’ll surely win.

Crawley often looks in good touch then he will inexplicably nick one. It’s just what he does!
Do you really think that the captain and coach’s advice to Duckett before he goes out will be along the lines of “play sensible, leave the ball and don’t waft at it”??

I would have thought their advice would be “play your shots Ben, don’t worry about the situation and there’s absolutely no criticism if you’re out playing aggressively”.

He’s very dangerous when it’s swinging, as is Marsh.

A 100 partnership here is what we need to take the pressure off
Let's do this.

I think I'd feel more confident if we only had 40 overs left to bat rather than two days.
I was going to take the step fatha down to day 5. It's not going to happen

Are these two actually going to be playing first session red ball cricket?

Got to expect England to chase this down….but there is that nagging doubt that is always there with England these days.

I’m going with….get the runs required with no more than five down.
There you go….I’ve broken my own rule about tempting fate and gone and said it….😰
