Bid rejected for Clarke

We were in L1 and loaned him for a year. In that year we got promoted, unless i've got my years wrong. This is Jack's third year with us. When we signed him it was based on L1 data. I doubt we agreed over 2m for him.addons might double that amount but I seriously doubt it. sell on clause would be 20% maybe?

Some of the number speople are coming up with on here are laughable. One year on loan to us would have been cheap. He signed based on that and possibly a good future. there's no way Spurs would expect big money on Jack Clarke!

His value has gone up no doubt. Anyway none of us now really. Club must be well happy with finances on it, Cirkin too probably.
He joined towards the end of January in League One so half a season give or take.

Initially Sky were reporting we'd paid £3.6m for him but it wasn't long before that changed to undisclosed. I think we would pay that amount for the right player, he was a £10m player a few seasons previous, but I think you're right when you mention add-ons taking it to that figure. Maybe there's a hefty one on promotion and no doubt they'll have a sell on fee.

I wouldn’t even respond to them it’s that ridiculous. They are clearly skint and aren’t spending their premier league money so the chances they are going to yo-yo is high I reckon. If they don’t it’ll be down to kompany.

If a Brentford or palace started bidding at Ā£15 million I’d be worried like.

Well Burnley forum seem to know more than usšŸ˜‚we paid Ā£3.5 with a 20% sell on profit. Which gives us a massive Ā£4.4m profit…
It doesnt matter what we paid for him, his value now is so much higher

And hes worth a hell of a lot to us. £20 million wouldnt be enough for me

I mean, going off that logic Bristol City should accept a Ā£5m bid for Alex Scott since they didn’t buy him for anything.

Well its quite a lot of assumptions to suggest something is easily forseen.

Either way, if we did owe Spurs 7m, it would mean we would have pocketed what, 15m? That comes with the territory when getting deals done i guess, can't have it both ways.

Anything north of 20 and Clarke has to start asking himself questions imo there.
Do you think spurs wouldn’t make 5-7m off the deal if we sold him?

I think he’s worth 20m all day. Lewis Potter and Pedro deals are the benchmarks. They had less time on their deals as well

I dunno mate, there just seemed to be a disconnect with what you said and Burnley bidding 9m. If they do, it'll mean we have made a good chuck also ofc.

I dont know what we paid or how its structured.

I quite agree on the valuation and see the potter deal as the relevant benchmark but find this continued insistence at quite a different price odd.

According to Captain Fishpaste the latest bid is nowhere near the number that will tempt Sunderland.

All of this is coming from Harte the agent. He’s going round telling everyone he should be playing in the premier league and encouraging clubs to bid knowing if we are to spend a substantial amount more now we need to generate income. Agents are all rats.
I haven’t read all the posts on this thread. I’m half pissed on a balcony in Turkey.
Jack Clarke is a Ā£20m player……..at least. Burnley have just had a major cash injection.
If Clarke is a Premier league player ( and he is) he can play there with us.
Once he is in the Premier League and the public see what he can do, his value will double.
I’m not kidding.
If he had a fancy foreign name Chelsea would be in with a £50/60m bid.

@barts45

harte actual quotes

Clarke himself is extremely happy at Sunderland, as confirmed this week by agent Ian Harte, although he did concede he did not know what the summer will hold for the player.

ā€œJack loves it at Sunderland and he’s got three years [of his contract] left,ā€ . ā€œOf course I can’t control what other clubs are going to do. If other clubs contact Sunderland that’s unfortunately out of my control.
If Harte is touting him around, and Clarke is happy here, we just play hardball, and it might make other clubs looking at our best players think twice before even bothering. Could help us in a backhanded way.

Doesn't cost anything to go after a player. The costs of keeping someone unhappy can be huge.

While we all want to fight the good fight, its far better being on better terms with all including agents, if at all possible.

What makes ya think he is unhappy my old marra.Looks to me like he is leading a conga line while doing the macarena 😁

I was just playing out a series of hypotheticals in my cluttered mind as a general point as opposed to anything specific to Clarke.
