CC : Leicestershire v Durham

Like I said I am cautious and in the current situation with the table a good solid draw here with good bonus points is job done. A defeat brings Leicestershire right back into it though. We just do not need to risk it.

I sort of talked myself into accepting that a draw is actually a really good return for us, but I think we all know that the lads will go after the extra 11 points.

Due to the restricted overs tomorrow being 96 then you are correct that runs per wicket isnt really relevant. What is relevant though is the match run rate which has been 4.29. If we declare in the morning they need 4.08 and it took us 109 overs to dismiss them in the 1st innings.

Leicestershire’s match run rate is 3.87 - our bowlers have been tighter than theirs and it’ll be our bowlers, not theirs, who are getting to work tomorrow.

I would back us to knock those off on this pitch so why risk it when we really do not actually need to win?

But that’s what I was getting at regarding the comparisons - it won’t be us trying to knock them off, it’ll be Leicestershire.

I am sure you are correct that we will not bat on and we will trust our bowlers to get the job done and I am fully hoping they do. If it rains at any point then that will be enough to save us from a potential defeat anyway even if they bat well.

A draw seems likely but with 8 wickets left & Lees still there I would bat on for another hour this morning and give it some welly to see how far we can push the score. Our score rate for this innings is 5 per over so another 16 overs could see us put on a further 75 or 80 runs.

A lead of 450+ runs would be a good psychological barrier as Leicestershire has only passed that total in an innings once this season by scoring 451. In fact just taking half an hour to push our lead over the 400 mark would be worth while. Besides if they are put in to bat an hour before lunch and lose a wicket their doubts will begin set in.

We still have a reasonable chance of wining this game the best Leicestershire can hope for is a draw. If you want to win the Division you have to be prepared to go for it when you get the opportunity.

Met Office forecast for Grace Rd is mainly cloudy, rain not forecast until 4pm (30% chance).

Sounds ideal.

I agree we should bat on, but I think another 50 runs as quick as we can would do it

Why are you consistently ignoring the fact that a day four pitch and a day one pitch are entirely different?
Remember we will have Potts available for the whole innings this time.

This is very important. The lad has been sensational

I think our collective problem on here is that we are naturally pessimistic after recent years’ performances.

Fortunately, Ryan Campbell has a different mindset. There’s a threat of rain later, and we will need time to take 10 wickets. I’d be v surprised if we don’t declare overnight.

Let’s just get out there and knack them 😂
