CC : Leicestershire v Durham

Doesn’t look like it.

I’d be canny pissed off if this happened to us, called up as cover for a spinner who has been replaced by a seamer anyway
This absolutely stinks. I’m ashamed that this has been allowed to happen. There was no prior public announcement that he was “nominated”. Can’t enjoy winning by cheating.

It was certainly mentioned on the BBC commentary at the start of the game that he was nominated, and was named on the team sheet. Arguably this rule is unfair, but Durham would be nuts not to take advantage of it if it’s available.

Remember we were almost shafted by the ‘concussion’ substitute v Yorkshire not so long ago.

Rules are rules, same for everyone.

Can anyone quote a previous instance where a player has been released by England and allowed to join his county mid game? And which rule/law permits it?

LVCC playing conditions, rule 1.3

mate its happened loads, the last 10 years

its a good rule, otherwise you'd have people selected in England squads missing the whole summer playing no cricket

no problem with it what so ever, its common sense.
It has happened before, can’t remember specific examples though.

I don’t like it though, even though it benefits us in this situation.

Doing much?

think it makes sense, otherwise Potts would play no cricket during the Ashes.

I can honestly see that viewpoint too, I just don’t fully agree with us this morning being able to drop in an international seamer under grey skies halfway through a game.

Especially when Ahmed hasn’t been released for them.

However, it’s gone against us in the past, these are the rules and allowances so we’re doing nowt wrong.

Aye, its fairly common like, its not ideal for Leicester for sure, but I think the alternative is worse, havin some of the best young talents in England playing 12 th man.

Absolutely loads, it's one of the best changes the ECB have made in the last 20 years. Graham Onions must have joined us 10+ times mid game.

Better to have Potts getting some game time than carrying drinks.

Look at it from the other angle, why should we have to lose the services of OUR international seamer for the first half of this game due to him bowling in the Lords nets in preparation for a game he was never going to play in?

None of it is our fault though?

Us losing Potts for the first two days wasn’t our fault, nor is them not getting Ahmed back. I sympathise with them, because I think it’s f*cking ridiculous, but none of any of it is our fault.
