CC : Leicestershire v Durham

Pretty dire weather forecast for next 2 days.
With Leicestershire going in to the 3rd day with 6 first innings wickets remaining it looks like a drawn game to me. Unless they totally collapse by lunch tomorrow which seems unlikely.

There will be a bit of rain about tomorrow afternoon for a couple of hours but if the forecast for Wednesday is correct the whole of the morning will be rained off. Out of the two days left in the match probably nearly half of that will be lost to rain. .

Collecting as many points in the time that they have is going to be important

I know it’s very much a ‘current’ tactic to declare early leaving enough time to take 20 wickets - but I can’t help feeling we missed an opportunity to completely bat Leicestershire out the game. Call me old fashioned but I think if you’ve got the chance early in the game to completely remove any chance of a defeat you should take it.

As things stand, we could be talking about a Leicestershire lead by the halfway stage of tomorrow and even if we aren’t, it appears that we could be facing a tricky third innings.

Don’t get me wrong, I still wouldn’t swap our situation for theirs presently - the new ball is only three overs away, we still lead by 182 and if we pick up two wickets in the first hour tomorrow we’re into their bowlers.

BUT, I do feel like we should’ve batted on this morning. The way we were scoring we could’ve gone beyond 650 well before Tea and still had 50 overs or so at them today. If you’ve got two and a half days of cricket ahead of you and the only positive result you can hope for is a draw - I imagine that it doesn’t half demoralise you. Again, we could’ve had Leicestershire in that situation today.

Feels like a missed opportunity.
My thoughts exactly. I didn't see much of the morning session but was a bit surprised to say the least to discover that we had declared on 517 after what was in reality only three and a half sessions. Mind you this time I didn't turn the air blue as I did after another declaration 10 days ago.

Let's just hope there's no batting collapse in our 2nd innings that turns into a repeat of the Sussex result.

What weather forecast are you going off? A few people now have seemingly written Wednesday off, but as mentioned earlier, the forecast website I use shows very little rain over the next two days.

That was my only concern following what’s occurred thus far, as unlikely as it is, we should be going to bed tonight with a lead still in excess of 300.

I always tend to go off metcheck. See how we go I guess. Durham are giving this a good go. I'd settle for 12/13 points though

I get that..... completely, but these are new times (eek). Times where we risk defeats to push for wins (eek). It won't always go to plan, but I'm enjoying the ride and trying to remain sanguine about it when things don't work out as hoped.

I felt a bit sorry for Stan today. For his first 4 overs he looked the part. He gave us a bit more pace and he was largely accurate and reasonably hostile. Then his 5th over went for 12 and he got pulled immediately. When he came back on later in the afternoon his radar was all over the place. He certainly isn't ready for a regular first team place yet, but I still see loads of promise. I thought the skip was a bit hasty taking him off in his first spell, but he had no choice after that final over

I watched a fair bit of Matt P bowling. He started off like a man with almost no cricket under his belt recently, and the constant overstepping was very poor (Handscomb got an extra 50 runs today because of it) He seemed to pitch it outside leg a lot as well, even though the short boundary was on that side, but he never seemed to stop tossing it up and he was getting a fair bit of turn at times. As the day went on I watched spells he where he was pretty much bang on the money. I think he'll improve for us with every match he plays... crikey, I hope so

Mulder was a lucky get today. I counted three times where he could have been out and all of them were just out of reach or fell just short

I really don't like this Kookaburra experiment initiated by Strauss...... the big daft bollock. Spinners are taking wickets in huge numbers all around the country because the seamers have been nullified. Almost every side in the country seems to have picked two spinners for this round.... it's almost as if they knew what would happen. Daft idea.

I agree with most the post but whats the problem with the 2nd part, spinners taking wickets? its good if that is the case surely? spinners dont get much of a chance in this country. I like it.

Skipper should have taken Stan off after 4 overs in his first spell, bowled with good pace and aggression. Keep the young lad full of confidence after a difficult performance in the previous game. A bowler like that needs to bowl shorter spells, similar to how Carse was used when he started playing.

spinners are taking wickets because the counties are packing them in just because it's a kookaburra. Surely the whole point was to get bowlers on the England radar used to bowling with one. Well anyone on the England radar is already away with England, so unless they do get released they'll have missed the boat (some of the matches are so far advanced that they might miss the boat anyway) and I imagine counties will have prepared pitches in advance for the expected wealth of spinners.... I know I would

to back track slightly on my response to our declaration.... if Potts is likely to return tomorrow, will not Rehan do the same thing? If he does then he might slot straight into the batting lineup and that would shorten their tail by a fair bit, because the lad can bat.

Rehan might still play, Potts won't which means Anderson and Wood who were doubts must be ok. It sounds like they'll pick the same XI and Wood will be first reserve.

I think England have f*cked up really, Wood should’ve played at Edgbaston, Potts should play Headingley and Wood again at OT. I’m biased obviously, but on the brightside, it’s Durham’s gain if Potts is released from England today.

The Beeb weather now says there's no rain expected today . They still show rain from 3pm onwards tomorrow (Wednesday). Lets hope that they are wrong about that too.
