Brandon Glover

Why is he here? I'm lost. Why was he signed?

We have had a tortious injury crisis but he cant et close to the red ball team and is even in and out of the white ball stuff.

Loaning in players the day before games, but we gave this lad a 2 year deal and still won't play him

The above might help answer the questions from your opening paragraph.

As for the injury crisis, we’ve signed a Kiwi seamer to replace Patel which makes a lot of sense and in the current game he’s been picked alongside Raine and McAlindon.

I’m sure you’re happy we’re focusing on giving the youngster a chance.

Clearly Glover is preferred for white ball cricket and given he’s a 26 year old who was signed to a two year deal it seems like he’s a bit of a project for the club who as yet hasn’t proven he’s worth a red ball gig ahead of Raine and McAlindon.

You think its fine to be signing pros from Shotley Bridge the day before a game before someone on a 2 year deal?

Why not? The Kiwi has played over twice as many FC games as Glover and has an average that is 10 runs better.

Focus less on who he’s been playing club cricket for and more on the bigger picture.

Its defs strange like, my point is I am struggling to see the bigger picture with him

Fine if he wasnt signed to play CC but when you have so many injuries and still arent first choice in any format then its not good

remember he is one a senior wage like

What i like (as an optimist) is it suggests we're putting in serious effort (recruitment and financially) to be a serious whiteball AND red ball outfit

He’s probably got a contract that is weighted towards performances/appearances.

It seems clear that Campbell signed a few lads who he’s worked with previously and I know that with De Leede they see him as a bit of a project, as someone who could be a long-term future star. Perhaps that’s the same for Glover? As mentioned, he’s got two years to prove his worth, there’s your bigger picture, he’s not even a quarter of the way through his ‘prove it’ deal - it could well be that they don’t extend him, but up to now, he still has time on his side and I fully trust the coach to get it right.

It seems to me like you’re over analysing this one. We’re top of the Division by some distance and if we win at Leicester we’re almost guaranteed promotion. Up to now, there’s only one game (this current one) where seam bowling selection has been any kind of problem and the club have opted to bring in a lad who averages 25 in FC cricket and has significantly more experience of playing in that environment.

If this is the only thing folk have to whinge about, Campbell must be doing alright.

Let's change the Campbell to Collingwood and the Glover to MacLeod.

Was he that great? No. Did he probably only get a job because of Collingwood time coaching Scotland? Yes.

Would we have won the one day cup without his stupidly good catch at lord's? Probably not.

Am i exaggerating? Who cares.

Sometimes it's the little signings that make the biggest difference.

I don’t get the comparison at all.
Change the word whinge to ‘questioning’ if you prefer, but the rest stands.

I won’t bother discussing anything Durham related at all then.

maybe Glover was just a punt that hasn't quite come off yet. I watched him play against the students and didn't look anything special to me, but maybe Campbell has seen something in him that he thinks he can work with. Maybe his real talent lies in 50 over cricket and he'll be great at that in a month or so's time. Fingers crossed

He's at the ground and seems very much a popular member of the squad. I think it's a case of trusting the process & see where we end up. Some players aren't always an instant success.

I think signing this lad was the right thing to do in the short term, but in the medium or long-term you look at our bowling and - aside from stuff we have no control over i.e. England call ups - there are a lot of bowlers getting injured or failing to step up which could just be bad luck or ask questions of the coaches. It's the antithesis of our batting, which is as good as I can remember it since we won the CC.

Dickson

When he first arrived I couldn't work out quite why we'd signed him. Last year he was terrific.... totally compensated for the loss of Lees to England. I was disappointed when it was announced he wanted to be off.
He's been terrible at Somerset. Averaged 18 this season....

.....
