Durham double signing

Not all in the XI at the same time like

Ackermann and Parkinson is 2 more in the XI like.
Makes me realise how special the win under colly and then 50 over trophy was.

Full of good talented lads from the area. Will be hard to replicate that, but you wonder why, just a generational thing?
Bloody good times they were.

Don't forget if Bedingham does leave that also opens up 2 offical overseas slots for next season on top of the Leicestershire 2.

Not sure where the dough is coming from if that hapoens.

Ackerman is 33 next April so I’d hope the club see him as an experienced all rounder in the last few years of his career bringing on the younger players. Also an extra bowling option. Parkinson is only 26 and in the peak of his career so must be coming to be a mainstay of the teams spin bowling?

Yep, can definitely relate to this.

For me it's indicitive of the top levels of the club nowadays. There's not many with local connections and those that do aren't from a cricket background so don't really have that ethos built into them. They are there purely to get success (which isn't such a bad thing and is understandable) and aren't that bought into the development of young, local talent.
I think I’m the only one but i’m slightly dismayed by all this. Just going to end up with a team full of county pro all from outside the area

Not really why I support Durham

I’ll get criticised but can’t help change how I feel.
My reply was supposed to be in response to this.

Disappointed if Trevaskis goes as I think he is worth persevering with. Although the mark of any players ability is how many Counties line up to sign them. We've shown a few players the door over the past couple of years who have just disappeared back into Club cricket.

His record is poor like with the ball I think he showed more ability with the bat

Hence the rumour that Bedingham is leaving otherwise Ackernann's signing doesn't make sense
Yeah but thats a rumour at the moment and he does have 2 years left on his contract. Although it does feel like there is something in it. If it does happen that does open up 2 overseas slots with the arrival of the Leicestershire 2.
I would imagine a front line seamer would be a priority but would they go for two.

I share your feelings. But hopefully we get promoted, then, who is going to be capable of immediately performing at Division 1 level? IMO we need to get promoted, become established in Division 1 and kick on from there. Unfortunately we need a few stop gap signings in the meanwhile until we have the local talent coming through to replace them. I would be absolutely gutted if we were promoted this year and relegated next year.

I struggle to see the difference between the player policy now and that of 2005 onwards, other than the absence of kolpak players. Back then we built a double championship winning side with Benks, Diva, Ottis et al, whilst still bringing through local players like our current captain and Rushy. So many local players came through at that time that some of them inevitably cascaded out to other counties. Two of those who left because of lack of opportunity came back as player and coaching staff to futher benefit us years later

I have no problem with signing established, good quality players, as long as we can afford it.... and I assume that we now can after years of ECB induced scraping by

More young local players got games then. The local core we have now is older (Potts excepted).

People can throw out 3/4 young players’ names on here but they’re only getting the odd game here and there in the main. Ignoring the 50 over stuff which is basically a development competition.

Yeah you need some good high class players, but we have more now than ever, that’s the reality. I think after a few lean years they’ve decided to just try win games

It must be pointed out in their defence that stokes, wood n Potts would be in the side

We are slightly losing our identity I feel, but let’s see

Aye not regulars

indeed. Our T20 campaign is perhaps indicative of what div 1 life might look like without experienced replacements for these players. Not an academy product, I know, but Lees could easily have been added to that list and next year perhaps Carse too. Plus we might only be a phone call away from losing the Corporal too if associate finances are tackled

I think we've really missed Potts (exacerbated by injuries to Carse and Coggers), but in truth I've stopped considering Stokes and Woody as Durham players anyway. When they aren't on England duty we have very little or no access to them and unlike other former England players who returned to our ranks upon international retirement, I doubt that will be an option with either of them, because they'll be so crocked they'll either retire full stop or tread the T20 franchise boards. They are perhaps more marketing material than players for us

Yeah agree on stokes n wood for sure. We’ve not paid their wages in a long time.

It’s a tricky balance and the club were taken by surprise last year with the Potts and Carse call ups

I’m just being honest in how I feel thats All, there is no easy answer.

Great Cc season but just looked at the t20 table and it’s not been very good like
