Durham double signing

It's getting harder to complain about Durham having a paper thin squad
Fair, but I'll do it for the seam bowlers. It was always a gamble having the top 3 as Potts, Carse and Coggers - 1 likely to be off with England and the other two likely to be injured. De Leede looked good but he's off playing with the tulip-eaters.

I think I’m the only one but i’m slightly dismayed by all this. Just going to end up with a team full of county pro all from outside the area

Not really why I support Durham

I’ll get criticised but can’t help change how I feel.

I can relate to that too. Ackermann seems a bit of a needless Kolpak addition when this wasn't what the club was built on.

I get that - however I’m craving the club being successful again. If we need to go down this route then so be it.

I don’t think it’ll stop us producing the talent, we just won’t rely on them as much.

Do you want Sunderland to sign amad back to play attacking midfielder or would you rather embo because he's local but not as good

there’s a balance though. Disappointing news on Trev that. I think his best format is red ball and he’s never really been given a chance under Campbell
The local players against doing well argument of course everyone wants us to produce local players and get results but if we sign quality players and get results that's most important

It’s a different sport like.

Why should it be different though as many have said the second 11 players aren't really progressing
Sunderland probably have more local first team players than Durham at the moment.
I get that it's just idealistic I do understand but it's more important to be winning than playing people because they are local which can be detrimental to results look at last season in the longer format

I think Durham's purpose has always been to produce cricketers from the region in the hope they'll reach the top of the game, and for the county to have strong local representation in the playing staff. SAFC and football in general is more business like and less emphasis placed on this.

I can understand supporters feeling the club is moving away from it's values with signings like Ackermann.

As long as it's not detrimental to results and people are good enough to play they will look at the results with Gibson and mcalindon bowling last year nothing against them they weren't ready, you don't see people complaining we brought Robinson who's helping us lots and deleede in the four day format as they are contributing to us doing well

Agree, Campbell appears to have written off Trev rather quickly. Think he has potential as a batsman and is,a top fielder.
Obviously there needs to be a balance between youth and experience. Overloading with the latter at present imo. Drop in form of the youngsters in 2nd team suggests they're becoming a little dissillusioned

Totally agree that none of our upcoming bowlers are ready. That's where we needed to strengthen and we didn't

I agree 100%, I support/follow Durham because they’re my County side, it used to be great to have a team full of local lads accompanied by the permissible overseas, we seem to be moving towards a team full of journeymen, I’ll still follow Durham but I think I’ll stop attending 🤷‍♂️

Yeah probs what I agree with that aye. Aye Trev could be a top 6 batsmsn for me

Totally get the concerns shared by some above. I'm on the fence about it. Ackermann is a player I've always admired, he's a good solid professional who I think will do a good job for Durham and who knows the coach. I don't really know much about Parkinson.

I always have wanted to see local talent do well for Durham and to be given opportunities and I don't see that changing anytime soon. On the flip side I would like us to be successful which the last 6-7 years we don't need to really go on about, it's been a tough slog. It's a fine balance homegrown local lads vs outsiders (if that's the right phrase to use). For now I think we're ok with it.

Borthwick, Clark, Trev, Robinson, McAlindon, Bushnell, Raine, Doneathy, Gibson for example are still representing the club well. Plenty other young local lads who have come through the system not far away, so we'll see how we go with it all.

Sometimes change isn't a bad thing, just maybe not a big amount of change though. I think we have a good mix at the moment

The 2008 and 2009 champions had: Benks, DiVo, Shiv, Callum Thorpe, Will Smith, Mitch Claydon, Paul Wiseman, Ian Blackwell, Gaz Breese, and loads of other overseas/Kolpak/signed players.

Not all in the XI at the same time like

Ackermann and Parkinson is 2 more in the XI like.
Makes me realise how special the win under colly and then 50 over trophy was.

Full of good talented lads from the area. Will be hard to replicate that, but you wonder why, just a generational thing?

I would be disappointed if Trev went. I’ve always rated him. He’s exactly the sort of player we need to give us strength in depth if we are going to compete. The lack of this was largely our downfall (if that’s the right word) last year.

I would hope he will come into his own in the 50 over comp.

I think Ackermann will replace Bedingham and Parkinson will replace Patel. So I don't think it's making the situation worse. Unless we then get two overseas players on top of that....
